Both papers like variety—and letters about interesting, if benign, events. Included on Die Botschaft's recent Worth Mentioning list: "Mineral deficiency causes a dead cow" referring readers to a letter from a man in Plains, Montana, who found his only milk cow dead one Saturday morning. One woman wrote about her cousin who stuck something up her nose and didn't tell anyone. Sometime later, her mother noticed a sprout growing out of her nostril, pulled on it and out came a corn kernel.

Our friends the Amish preserving that ancient artifact some living still remember, the newspaper.............. Die Botschaft is German for 'The Messenger or Ambassador.'

My nephew put a kernel of corn up his nose and it sprouted. My son put a wheel off a little car up his and it took a doctor to remove it.

We go back roads and end up in some pretty remote places. The papers can be hilarious.

We say some of the Amish ones on a trip through northern Indiana a few years back. We also had the opportunity to eat at some Amish owned restaurants. The food was hearty and bland, but the pies were fabulous.

It was Auburn, Indiana, I think. Anyway, I had been traveling all night and around breakfast time I was starving. I pulled in to this restaurant and went inside and ordered 3 eggs over medium, pancakes, and coffee. When the lady brought out the eggs they were HUGE! They were served on a gigantic platter with hash browns and toast. I had just finished the eggs, hash browns, and toast,(stuffed to the gills) and I was finishing my coffee when she brought out these pancakes that were as big as the plate. They looked so good I waited for a few minutes and dug right in. That was about the best meal I think I've ever had at any restaurant. I couldn't stop complimenting the lady before I left and needless to say she got a pretty good tip too.

I think that the Amish tend to be very active and eating is really important.

The breakfast you describe is so classic and so perfect, except for the complete lack of any fruits or vegetables whatsoever, lol.
