Terrible Cookie

Here I am for my periodic dream-sharing. Thank you for being here.

I had a dream I still had the keys to the apartment of an estranged friend. I felt she had given me more than I had given her. After years, I let myself into her apartment to bake her a giant cookie. I wanted it to be in the shape of something that would somehow communicate my love and gratitude and make up for years of neglect, but I couldn't think of anything. Also, I forgot to bring sugar. So I left a shapeless dough on a cookie sheet and went for a walk, to buy sugar and try to think of the perfect shape for a making-amends cookie. When I came back to the apartment, my friend was there. She had found and baked the sugarless, shapeless dough while I was out walking. She said, "Your cookie was terrible."

You were trying to fix the situation. That is a starting point. Maybe the dream can be a starting point. Maybe it IS a starting point.

That'll teach you to try and sweeten the dough!

Perhaps assumptions would be made by your friend that would make your apology moot or inappropriate. Shapeless and not so sweet?

Perhaps an apology now would be an intrusion and not complete? Or misinterpreted and thus terrible?

It does seem that even though you would like to make amends, you are not ready to do so.

... and while you were out looking to provide that ingredient (away from the scene), the assistance was received (cookie was eaten) & your friend let you know that they 'absorbed your assistance' (cookie) but it wasn't 'pleasant'.
