Back to the Bible for Catholics

THE head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, has a mission to accomplish and that is to emphasise the principles of God among his members.

He said the emphasis was to take his members back to the fundamental source of faith — which was the Word of God.

"This is about bringing back Catholics to the Word of God. His word is our closest source to him and his word becomes a fundamental source for us to deepen our faith," Archbishop Chong said.

"So this is bringing Catholics back to the fundamental of faith which is the Bible.

I was involved in the RCIA program in my parish. We had a weekend retreat near the end of it, and one of the exercises in the retreat was that we were to read the Gospel of Mark (selected as the shortest, I suspect) and then discuss it. One of the sponsors, a life-long Catholic, said afterwards that he had never actually read any book of the Bible all the way through.
