Into Great Silence
That's the title of a fascinating -- and very different -- film about a Carthusian monastery in the French Alps called the Grande Chartreuse. It has no n*rration and no music, not even artificial lighting for the camera. It is shown on EWTN from time to time; I picked it up on DVD Yesterday. Has anyone else seen it?

(6,384 posts)I approached with curiosity and a little trepidation - a full length feature in utter silence? But the photography was stunning, and more than adequately conveyed the serenity and joy of the lives of these monks. It was truly beautiful to see. And interestingly, in spite of what might be a limited appeal, the cinema was more than half full the day I saw it. And everyone was silent - no fiddling about, no eating, no coughing. And I left with a feeling of great peace.
I'd recommend it to anyone, Catholic and non-Catholic alike.
