(Jewish Group) Tulsa synagogue works to bring hope to Afghan refugees

Purim Festival looks to bring hope to refugees of war.

In celebration of Purim, a local synagogue is working to be the glimmer of light for refugees displaced by war.

“We are celebrating this holiday even in the midst of acknowledging the realities in our world around us,” Rabbi Dan Kaiman said at this year's festival.

Kaiman called on his community to fill baskets with letters of hope and small trinkets as part of their refugee outreach.

I twisted balloons at that synagogue for Purim. It's one of my favorite gigs in 20 years of twisting. The rabbi at the time stood next to me to watch, and when one kid asked for Cartman, she exclaimed, "Cartman? At least get Kyle! He's the Jew!"

And then they gave me half a dozen hamantaschen pastries.
