Chris Williamson* MP "too apologetic' about antisemitism" has been suspended *UK Labour party

The Labour MP who said his party has been “too apologetic” over antisemitism has finally been suspended, following outrage from his colleagues in parliament.

Labour leaders had initially refused to suspend Mr Williamson for the comments, but after demands that the whip be removed from the MP – including from deputy leader Tom Watson – party chiefs backed down.

As well as a string of other senior party figures demanding action, almost 40 Labour MPs signed a letter calling for Mr Williamson to be suspended.

Critics and campaigners against antisemitism accused the party leadership of only finally acting against Mr Williamson after being forced into doing so by a public backlash.

He brought all the baggage of the Free Palestine campaign with him.

As far as Chris Williamson goes, he was actually quite right wing when he was leader of Derby Council. Then when Corbyn became party leader he suddenly became a very tribal, sectarian left winger! Although he seems less motivated by a desire to bring about socialism than a desire to go after other Labour MP's who aren't from the correct faction.

Labour from winning against the weakest, most inept Tory government in my memory. Has he brought any thing to the party besides incompetence and antisemitism?

Corbyn has brought some left wing policies with him such as rail nationalisation that have been fairly popular with many people. He's also brought an influx of new members which has at times been of great advantage to Labour.

If I were advising Labour at this time I would not tell them to be less left wing. I would tell them to stop the squabbling and to take clear firm action on anti-semitism.

Difficult to comprehend the idiocy that seems so prevalent with Labour at present. And that's before we even get to what Momentum are doing to the party in my local area. I am especially disgusted with Sheffield Hallam CLP, who were represented by a Jewish candidate in 2015 and are now passing the most ridiculous motions on anti-Semitism by a margin of 40 to 1.

Labour officials are facing a backlash from local activists over the decision to suspend MP Chris Williamson.

Party members in several constituencies have called on Labour to reinstate the Derby North politician, who is being investigated over a "pattern of behaviour".

Earlier this week, Mr Williamson was revealed to have told a Sheffield meeting of Momentum supporters that Labour has been "too apologetic" over antisemitism, which prompted the action against him.

But activists in Sheffield Hallam, as well as Camberwell and Peckham in south London, have voted in favour of demands for Labour to reverse his suspension.
