Just saw Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles, and I recommend it.
'When "Fiddler on the Roof" opened on Broadway in 1964, it explored themes of tradition, religion, and anti-Semitism against a modern backdrop of radical social change that addressed gender roles, sexuality, and race. Rare archival footage and interviews with musical luminaries explore the legacy of this long-running, award-winning musical.
Release date: August 23, 2019 (USA)'

1. I'm going to the Joel Grey/Yiddish "Fiddler" next month with my second cousin.
We've been researching our great grandparents together and it's a real thrill to see "Fiddler" and imaging life in the shteltl before they immigrated.

3. Lucky! Joel Grey figured in the movie (briefly.)
There's a bunch of history in the movie.

5. I'd have to travel over 2 hours to see it
I appreciate the recommendation.
In November 1971, as the movie was set to be released, we were casting and rehearsing for my 5th grade class play, which was Fiddler on the roof. I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, very Jewish neighborhood, many Jewish students and teachers in my public school. My parents had the music cassette from the play. I broke my ankle during winter recess, and couldn't be in our play. I was unable to return to school for a month, during which time I listened to that cassette and read the script many times. So, I am very familiar with the story and music. I will look forward to seeing this documentary when it's available on line or on CD. |

6. Sorry you couldn't be in the play.
I'm watching Fiddler (the movie) now.
