Mysterious spheres found beneath the Temple of the Feathered Serpent

Hundreds of mysterious spheres lie beneath the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, an ancient six-level step pyramid just 30 miles from Mexico City.

The enigmatic spheres were found during an archaeological dig using a camera-equipped robot at one of the most important buildings in the pre-Hispanic city of Teotihuacan.

"They look like yellow spheres, but we do not know their meaning. It's an unprecedented discovery," said Jorge Zavala, an archaeologist at Mexico's National Anthropology and History Institute.

The Mesoamerican ruins of Teotihuacan, a World Heritage Site, represent one of the largest urban centers of the ancient world. Thought to have been established around 100 B.C., the pyramid-filled city had more than 100,000 inhabitants at its peak, but was abandoned for mysterious reasons around 700 A.D. -- long before the Aztecs arrived in the 1300s.

The excavation at the temple focused on a 330-foot-long tunnel which runs under the structure. The conduit was discovered in 2003 when heavy rain uncovered a hole a few feet from the pyramid.

If the power source can be made to blow up at the twist of a knob, then I doubt they would ever be legal as long as that was an issue.

But if the power source could be made safe, then I can envision a world where phasers are legal, but not able to achieve any power level over "heavy stun".

Think about it... the idea behind armed self-defense is that you can use force to stop a violent attacker, and if that force has to be lethal to achieve a rapid disability, then so be it.

But if a phaser blast can stun a person's nervous system into unconsciousness for a long period of time, reliably and immediately, then a phaser would not need to be able to kill in order to incapacitate.

So, legal phasers that have 3 power settings: light stun, medium stun, and heavy stun. No disruption, no disintegration. You get the range and rapid firepower of a firearm with the immediate disabling power of a taser. And nobody dies.

No, military weapons belong in a military, with people who can be punished for misuse.

Civilians using such for personal defense should not be deciding under stress what setting would be appropriate and potentially underselecting. Worth stunning? Worth stunning hard. At least it's not "kill".

Sometimes we think that all civilization in this hemisphere started in "1492"...we forget there were some pretty advanced societies here long before the european influence arrived.

So that's how they transported heavy objects - set them on hundreds of spheres. Makes perfect sense. Move that heavy stone in all directions; no problem.

...their pyramids farther to the South. Seismic waves could come from any direction and the ground would roll and shift, while the building above would remain largely even.
