steam bubbles rising through the thick cooked cereal, cratering in little explosions as they reach the surface.

Replace the steam with subsurface methane rising, and I think you get the picture.

Sleeping in your tent and BLAM! there you are flying through the air with tons of ice and dirt.

Even worse if you're cooking dinner or heating water for tea. Then you are flying in a fireball with tons of ice and dirt.
