IMO even with that incomprehensibly low budget NASA has done more for the USA than all US wars from Vietnam on, with none of the negatives which dominate US war results.

(9,688 posts)I was heavy into sci-fi as a youth but no way could I get my mind behind Ronald Reagan's 'Star Wars' military experiments, or his many mundane wars, or any of that. My distaste for Reagan's way of thinking was instinctive. In a way, I think that Ronald Reagan's win put the lid on hope. So I disagree with politicians like Barack Obama who praise him.

(80,708 posts)I can think of little that is of such collective value to the species- except, of course, for making sure people are healthy, roads and bridges are safe, and children are educated- as scientific exploration and inquiry into the universe we inhabit.
And yeah, in light of the trillion that the military gets (or the 80 Billion plus we spend on the drug war every year, for that matter) it's unconscionable how little NASA gets. And as always, amazing what they are able to do with it.
