(12,214 posts)was on the Cassini launch team. How excited we all were! I remember how awed I was when she said the mission would last 20 years. Now it's over, and I can't help but feel a bit emotional about it.

I remember first seeing the photo "The Day the Earth Smiled." It almost moved me to tears. The universe is so immense, much more so than the average person is aware of, and we are so small, yet we put ourselves up on such pedestals.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
