Large Hadron Collider starting back up.

I dont have a link to a press release because usually the only people (me) who care about this stuff not only know about it but anticipate start-up for months during a Technical Stop.

If you're interested there is an interface where you can observe, in real-time, the LHC in operation. It's pretty cool. It may appear Greek, but if you're interested and a bit savvy, you can learn volumes about high-energy physics reading all the available whitepapers and participating in the discussion groups.

The below link drops you into the Dashboard interface, but using the drop-down menu you can view everything from the new Linac 4 (beam start) to the Beam Dump (beam end).

I visit many times a day when collisions are happening. When I taught I would leave it open on all the computers I could and my students would really get into it.

This week is Machine Checkout and scrubbing the beamlines. Next week will begin high-energy stuff given no problems arise.

when we physicists reveal our very witty sense of humor.

"Let's name it an anagram of an obscure reference to an erection".

In reality, that doesn't happen. We dont get erections.

Except for the very real Ron Jeremy moment of the Higgs discovery.
