Cygnus launches at 9:16 p.m. EDT (0116 GMT). SpaceX at 9:43 p.m. EDT (0143 GMT).
On Friday, Oct. 2, a Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo ship carrying nearly 4 tons of NASA cargo will launch toward the International Space Station from the agency's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia.
A Northrop Grumman-built Antares rocket will launch the Cygnus spacecraft on the CRS-14 (or NG-14) mission from Pad OA at Wallops at 9:16 p.m. EDT (0116 GMT). The mission has been delayed from Sept. 29 due to bad weather. NASA's webcast will begin at 8:45 p.m. EDT (0045 GMT).

(49,445 posts)From Connecticut! Crystal clear night, and even with the full moon it was readily visible. It was still burning the first stage, then there was maybe a thirty second gap before the second stage kicked in.
I was able to see it for about 4 minutes total, until the second stage gassed out while it was over Long Island (from my point of view).

(57,612 posts)We have a great view of these launches. I saw the first stage, as bright as anything. At about 9:18, the flames stopped. I did not see a second stage. I was outside watching the Moon and Mars too.
Wasn't there supposed to be a second launch tonight? I didn't see anything.

(49,445 posts)The Antares coasted about 30 seconds before the second stage kicked in. Maybe it went over your horizon by then?

(57,612 posts)I don't know how I missed the second stage. I was outside for a while after the first stage ran out of fuel.
