(49,445 posts)Regardless of what is used in casual living, the metric system is the choice of all scientists.
Engineers still use both, though.... at my place we typically use English.

(27,677 posts)and can confirm that we use both which is really the worst of both worlds. Millimeters (metric) and mils (Imperial) is a common source of confusion. 1 millimeter = 39.37 mils.
The Mars Climate Orbiter was lost because because of a confusion between expressing force both in the metric term Newtons (N) and the Imperial term Pound-force (lbf).
