(49,445 posts)... that the Earth would start to expand, or rebound, from its compressed normal diameter, so we would still be attached to the earth and maybe not even notice anything initially, except that the ground would start to fracture as the crust expanded. Then when gravity turned back on, we would all lurch as the planet suddenly stopped expanding and began to compress down, and we'd be following along. I don't think we'd be weightless, but it would be close.
The earth would shrink past its normal compressed diameter, slow down, then rebound and expand again, at a slower pace. Then we'd be experiencing above-normal gravity forces, as both the gravity of the earth and the expanding crust slammed us into it.
Then the planet would stop expanding and being shrinking again, and we'd be along for the ride like a roller coaster, until finally the planet reached its normal compressed diameter again.
Then we'd have to go fix all the damaged buildings, busted underground pipes, and figure out which volcanoes and fault lines decided to erupt.
But that's reality, and reality bites. I'm partial to the "watch all the people that believe in the rapture make idiots of themselves" activity.
