(94,087 posts)an airplane landing light! It's overcast today but I see it most mornings as it rises over the mountains, pretty spectacular.
When it's still dark and before you can see Venus, Mars is a bit higher and off to the south (right) of where Venus comes up. In about ten days you can start seeing the moon approaching and passing by as it nears the sun to start a new cycle. Somewhere, before long I think, Jupiter will show up somewhere in the line up.

(37,867 posts)Venus has many times been reported as a UFO, and at least one airport has given it clearance to land. On truly dark, moonless nights, when Venus is at its greatest elongation, it has sometimes been reported to cast a visible shadow.

(26,932 posts)above the horizon. It will always be in the east before sunrise, or in the west after sunset. Sometimes it is visible in the daytime. It will also show phases, which you will need binoculars or a telescope to see.
Jupiter, on the other hand, can also be quite bright but it can be all the way up in the middle of the sky.

(get rid of that deep space junk with that checkbox below the sky map and on the left side -- nobody can see any of that stuff unless they live 50 miles from the nearest street lamp, so its just clutter)
Someone else recommends https://stellarium-web.org/ but I haven't gotten used to it yet.
