(9,356 posts)I almost posted it in Religion myself. But I was pretty sure it would kick off the squawking of the Parrot Twins in there. As it did.
Once you did post, I added a couple of minor comments.
As I've said before, I can only admire the patience and persistence of some A/A posters in that group. I just don't have those qualities.
This odd thought just came to me, though - having lived in 2 Muslim nations, I've discussed Islam with quite a few of its adherents. NOT ONE of them has demanded the level of special treatment I see requested from some (mostly American) believers. Not one of them ever invoked racism, either.
I heard G.W. Bush called many things by Muslims, very few of them complimentary. But they didn't even call him a racist. About the closest I heard to that was "crusader" - in the traditional, 10th-century sense.
That's why I made the comment that, IMO, blanket accusations of "Islamophobia" are condescending and insulting to Muslims. They're certainly capable of defending their religion without any help from preachy, non-Muslim Western religious believers. In fact, some Muslims I've known don't trust those people, and I don't blame them. Right now, they only seem to be serving as Useful Idiots for the more radical Muslims.
Again, strictly IMO/IME, YMMV, etc. Damn, I suck at writing tonight.
