a Bible Museum in Washington, D.C.?

Did you know that an $800 million Bible museum is being built in Washington, D.C?

(Cue the building collapsing because of all of the built-in contradictions.)

It's hard for me to imagine a greater waste of time, money, and real estate. Even less useful than a golf course. With all of the wonderful museums in D.C. already, Mr. Hobby Lobby Steve Green is going to build his own museum to the Bible. Oy, and I'm not even Jewish. Fortunately they couldn't get onto "the Mall."

I wonder what kinds of things will be left out of the museum, like modern-day Christians tend to leave out large chunks of the Bible that don't exactly comport with modern life? Like that shellfish and pork thing, that adultery thing, that whole human slavery thing, and that kill your kids if they talk back to you thing, among other fascinating gruesomeness, gore and insanity, with a little love thrown in. I'm guessing the museum will de-emphasize Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Revelation is bound to be a hoot!

Hey, it's a free country! If you're rich enough to buy the right people, you can build a frikkin' museum to the Bible. At the minimum, I would expect no public dollars to go towards construction of this monstrous monument to error.

My guess is that they will promote him to a demigod. After all, if it wasn't for him, they wouldn't be able to hate gays.

and situated on private land, I could not care less. I suppose that any private money going toward construction is a good thing for the economy. But if they get a penny of public money, or if they get tax credits or exemptions, I have a real problem---just like I have a problem with Ham and his Noah museum and the tax exemptions he is getting.

"As many people as we can educate about this book, the better,” Green said. “I think seeing the biblical foundations of our nation — for our legislators to see that, that a lot of that was biblically based, that we have religious freedoms today, which are a biblical concept, it can’t hurt being there.”

OK, Steve, go thru the Constitution - the legal foundation of our nation - and show me all those Biblical foundations. I'll wait right here. Won't take long, since there aren't any.

"Religious freedoms...are a Biblical concept?" Really? THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GOD BEFORE ME. Yep, that's a great concept of religious liberty. Steve Green seems to be one of those people mentioned in the article who don't know jack-shit about their own Bible.

"It can't hurt being there." Oh, I hope it can! I'm looking forward to the noisy demonstrations by all the non-Fundie believers, about their sacred scriptures being marginalized or ignored. This has the potential to piss off Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons and I don't know who-all.

I love all the faux-worrying that "Americans don't know much about the Bible." Quite a few Americans actually do, but we're mostly atheists. And reading the Buy-bull is often one of the things that made us atheists.

Have some irony, Steve. It's good for your blood.

ETA: I predict ultimate failure for this project, after the first flush of "mandatory fun" Xian tourist groups. Though I'm sure Green can keep it going a long time on his (INHERITED!) money. The DC area just has too many other attractions already competing for the attention and limited time of the average, non-Fundie tourists.

...but it's definitely a waste of $800,000,000.00.
