Some clever Republicans recently shifted "their tone" towards gay people too.

Where are their celebratory threads?

I'm sure both decisions were made out of concern and love for lgbt folks and not at all politically and/or financially motivated, right?

No doubt women will be the next to appear to benefit from this new and improved kinder and gentler oppression.

How stupid do they think we are?

If your religious beliefs prevent you from agreeing with us or speaking on our behalf that's fine, but when you support an organization that uses its vast wealth and influence to subjugate human rights you're no liberal and you're certainly not my ally.

I don't care how nice your current spokes-model is, he's still the poster boy for everything that is wrong with religion.

Which is why they presented her as their female Vice President nominee. Desperation my dear friend desperation.

They think we can't read or think without their help.

But in the case of LGBT community republicans had to move quicker because of the elections. If it was up to them gays, women and minorities would still be treated as they were in 1950.
That is why they had to come back and start fuvking around with birth control and other woman's right issues.
Because (and I'm so glad) the younger generation don't give a flying rats ass who you are and more importantly who you love and they as a voting block believe in civil rights in larger margins than have ever been seen.

Answer: Very.

"when you support an organization that uses its vast wealth and influence to subjugate human rights you're no liberal and you're certainly not my ally"

Exactly. What good the RCC does can be accomplished by much less hateful organizations that could use our support.

The apologists on DU are still simpering over the faux announcement even though the Vatican just doubled down on its bigotry.

"What good the RCC does can be accomplished by much less hateful organizations that could use our support."

Besides, after the pedophile priest thingie.... and the RCC's response to it.... anything they have to say about morals is a moot point.... as I pointed out in that other forum.

The reply was "not to catholics".

So I pointed out that they are free to live in their little fantasy world, but they can stop pushing it as important to anyone else or the world in general.

It is all about "their tone" shifting. Republicans, or the RCC, or any other group that has been so anti-LGBT in the past (this includes Evangelicals, but I have not heard that they are budging yet).

Thinking about the reasons for the change in "tone" reminds me of a song, and now I can't get it out of my head....It seems to explain the reason for these shifts in tone. Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin"

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

DUers are supposed to be so politically savvy, how can they NOT see what a brilliant public relations coup this is?

Do they really think that the "change" is more than tone? And the reason behind it is about anything other than self preservation?

Loves me some Bob Dylan, thanks for the reminder, plugging in to my mp3 player now...

Atheists only hate religious believers because they're no longer allowed to openly hate racial minorities and gays.

Get with the program!
