Religion In The Comics - 006

Last edited Sun Feb 1, 2015, 11:15 PM - Edit history (1)

Here is one of the strangest creators in Comicdom. His name is Basil Wolverton. He drew Horror stories, Science-Fiction, and Comedy, all in his own unique style. Here he is at his weirdest:

Basil was also a religious man. When his local church decided to print their own versions of Bible stories, Basil volunteered to illustrate them. Fantagraphics has collected these drawings in a fine volume sans text so that you don't have to wade through all that religious BS. There are enough captions so that you can identify people and events.

I would put these drawings on par with Dore's illustrations of Dante's Commedia. Let's face it, the Bible is not a collection of cute fairy tales, but an anthology of horror and vengeance by an omnipotent megalomaniac. God has found his artist in Basil Wolverton. Do an image search for him and be amazed.

I don't know what DU's policy is on images. These posts rely heavily on images. Is nudity allowed? Is there a limit?

Some sites discourage hotlinking because it's basically stealing bandwith. Sites don't seem as concerned about it now as they were in the past, but it's still more reliable and more courteous to put your images on an image hosting site. The best one out there is imgur.com. The account is free and it's easy to use. Just upload images from the web or your computer, then copy the "direct link" into DU. Here's a picture from my imgur account.
