Any experts in weather, lakes, wind, waves?

I have been monitoring the beach conditions at Illinois Beach State Park and something confuses me.

Today, there is a warning for high waves of 3-5 feet on the National Weather Service. But when I check the Windfinder, it says wave height 0.7. Is Windfinder wrong?

Also what makes the wave period shorter or longer, on Friday it is 2 feet and on Saturday it is 5 feet.
