A heat wave that may break all-time records (as in, hottest of all time, not just for Sept.) is about to envelop parts of the West, raising wildfire risks again. NWS is using extremely strong language to describe the threat with this event.

Saturday and that may be extended. We are currently having Santa Ana type wind conditions up here in Montana. It's only 84 right now... Sunday and Monday it never got up to 70; was 71 when I went to bed last night.
Supposed to be mid 90s by tomorrow.

Finally, we got a few days that were what you might expect for September, pleasant, and the smoke blew out too. But that looks to be changing as we're going to be pushing 100 by the weekend. I can only hope the fires stay tamped down.

temps over 100 occur in waves thru most of the year, even up to the 90's in the dead of winter. In Los Angeles the record high of 113 occurred in september
