In Illinois, if it is too hot, the students are sent home at noon. Is that a minimum day?

Few schools here have air conditioning. I would imagine that some children could have health conditions that require air conditioning.

Some schools don't have A/C or only in a few rooms. My classrooms didn't have any and the room would be 90+ degrees for a few weeks ago year since it was year round and continued until the end of July.. I had to spray the kids with water and fans only blew papers around. No one can learn or teach in that environment. I take that back...my first graders learned how to read a thermometer in C and F.

They canceled school for a week (that never happened in the history of this very large district) in 2003 and again in 2007 this very same week in Oct due to two huge fires that burned 200,000 and 300,000 acres and burned down 2-3,000 buildings and during each one. A few teachers lost their homes. The fire was all around my school and crossed a 15+ lane freeway merge and would have burned everything until it reached the ocean if the weather hadn't changed suddenly.
