Bereavement
Related: About this forumI believe I had some kind of flashback today.
Many years ago, I was visiting friends and their little boy was killed when he ran onto the street. Worst day of my life. I have difficulty speaking of it to this day.
This morning in a mall parking lot, I heard a woman screaming. This wasn't kids fooling around, and I walked toward the screaming. A woman was screaming. I had heard those god awful screams only once before. I asked her what happened. "My son was murdered. My baby, my baby." She collapsed onto the pavement. A lady (who turns out is her grama) got out of a vehicle and told me she just told her granddaughter that her son had been killed. Soon 3 ladies passing by stopped and we tried console her, she was in agony. The grama decided to take her granddaughter to a hospital.
I went back to my car, shaking and the memory of that day rolling through my mind. Another god awful day.

(70,755 posts)It is the body and mind's reaction to a past trauma.
Which was activated by the similarity to today's events.
You will feel like you are re-living the original trauma.
Some things that might help:
Self soothing, self care, grounding exercise.
Physical activity.
Music, food, touching objects to feel grounded, deep breathing, reaching out to friends.
Warm bath, warm blanket, music, favorite movie, etc.
It will pass.
