My best friend's son died last July and today is his birthday.

I wish I could take her pain away. I would do it in a minute, but all I can do is be here for her. She lives some distance from me but I am with her in spirit. I would be with her in person but it's complicated.

He was only 37 years old and I knew him all his life.

My GS and I had a nice dinner last night to honor his mother's (my older deceased daughter) 48th birthday. She died 12 years ago.

Nothing takes the pain away, but little things like this can help a bit.

It was in her backyard (which is huge) and it was well-attended. I went up to help her set it up; pick out pictures for the memory boards; and generally do whatever she needed me to do. It was really beautiful, all those people coming together to remember him and pay their respects.
