Osaka resident world’s oldest woman

OSAKA – A 114-year-old resident of the city of Osaka is expected to be recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest woman, according to people close to her.

Misao Okawa, Japan’s oldest living woman, is expected to soon receive an official certificate from Guinness World Records honoring her achievement, they said Saturday.

“Have I lived so long? It’s strange,” Okawa said shyly after receiving the notification.

Okawa was born March 5, 1898, married in 1919 and gave birth to three children, two of whom — a son and a daughter — are still alive and in their 90s. She has never suffered any serious disease and says the secret of longevity is healthy eating.

The world’s oldest living person is currently 115-year-old Jiroemon Kimura in Kyoto. He was born April 19, 1897.

They have certainly experienced a lot of history in their lives, and no doubt they both would have many interesting stories to tell.
