Domo arigatou gozaimasu. I appreciate the encouragement. I am not good with languages, but this video host, Risa, makes learning Japanese vocabulary fun. I will look for the other videos, too. I hope other members of the group won't find such beginner videos too much of a nuisance. Domo arigatou gozaimashita!

Ima desho! 今でしょ!
Snap to it! Get a move on! Quit dawdling!
(Note: Your boss can say this to you, but you can't say this to your boss)

Bai gaeshi! 倍返し!
A pox on you! (or more literally, "A double pox on you!&quot
Something you can say when you're unceremoniously dumped by your boss for saying "Ima desho!" to him.

I'm impressed that you can write...err, type... Japanese. Have you studied it long?

Let me know if you need an assistant. I'm good with VB and COBOL and relational database design. My Japanese? Well, let's just say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

But I have to use Japanese word-processing software in my work.

I even prefer to use Japanese to send text messages, because it's so much easier to enter a Japanese character or two and let the cell phone give me a choice of a dozen or more words and phrases that begin with that character, rather than struggle with pushing one button several times just to get one English alphabet letter.
