Related: About this forumCNN’s Van Jones: Democratic Base in ‘Full-on Rebellion’ Against Hillary Clinton
Former Obama advisor and CNN contributor Van Jones said Tuesday that we are witnessing a full-on rebellion within the Democratic Party against Hillary Clinton, predicting that Bernie Sanders would win the first two primary states.
Jones made the comments after New Day host Alisyn Camerota pointed out that polls show Clinton possibly losing in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Jones urged restraint, pointing out that Bill Clinton also lost New Hampshire and Iowa in his 1992 presidential run and went on to win.
But something extraordinary is happening here; there is a full-on rebellion at the grassroots level of the Democratic Party, he said. MoveOn.org, or biggest progressive organization, endorsed Bernie Sanders last night. Overwhelmingly, 67%.

Actually, MoveOn endorsed him with 78% of the vote.

And that's obvious by their numbers. The vast percentage of them already supported Bernie -- before the endorsement. OTOH, polls show that similar numbers of minority voters support Hillary.

They are beginning to conduct their own votes in their local unions, and they will release the results of these votes to the public. Bernie is winning by 80 percent in these votes.
So typical of the Clinton camp. Tout trophies that mean nothing. Meanwhile, behind the scenes--the workers do not support her.

The more than 100,000 people who have jammed into arenas in Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Madison and other cities should be a wake up call for anyone still on the sidelines in the critical 2016 election campaign.
National Nurses United, I'm proud to say, has endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for many of the same reasons that have brought those 100,000 people to their feet.
Bernie Sanders aligns perfectly with nurses on the most critical problems facing our nation, from income inequality to guaranteeing healthcare to all to holding Wall Street and corporations to account to opening the doors to college education for everyone to racial justice to the climate crisis.
Those are the same issues that animate nurses when we talk about voting for nurses' values -- caring, compassion and community to heal America.

(15,480 posts)Move Over 'Berniebros': A Wave of Young Women Is Boosting Bernie Sanders
Yes, there's a big gender gap among young voters backing Sanders, but it's not among men
For anyone who has worked the crowd at a Sanders rally on a college campus, these results are not entirely surprising. At a rally at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, last October, by far the most enthusiastic Sanders supporters I met were young women. A 19-year-old African-American freshman named Aiyha Abdelbagi who wore a light-blue hijab and pink Bernie '16 button to the rally gave a typical answer when asked why she was supporting Sanders: "He's for the people, especially college students and African-Americans," she told me. "His answer on the Black Lives Matter question at the [first] Democratic debate put me on board, confirmed everything for me."
When I pressed Abdelbagi on why she hadn't cottoned to Clinton, she shot me a smile. "Just because Im a girl?" she said. "Just because she [Clinton] is a girl doesnt mean Im going to support her. Nope, not at all. That's not what feminism is about."

Our way of dealing with it was mostly through our loud, angry punk music and for a lot of us, myself included, we turned our anger into votes. They ignored us the way they ignore the youth of today, and so many just gave up so they won.

(10,749 posts)Love her or hate her, Hillary Clinton is no idiot. Sure, she comes with baggage, but what politician doesn't? Compared to the Republican candidates, I'd take her baggage any day.
All she had to do was essentially agree with Bernie - they pretty much agree on the issues anyway - but highlight the differences between them on how she would accomplish those objectives. To have her daughter get out there and claim Bernie plans to disembowel the ACA, when in fact he would seek something far better - single payer - was just plain stupid, and she seems to be paying a large price for it. Someone in her campaign seriously steered her wrong, or, if the attack approach was her idea, someone failed to rein her in.

(2,412 posts)Her Iraq War vote plus all her tough talk on foreign policy is too much baggage for me. Around 500,000 people are dead over there because of her vote. That's a lot of bodies and lives ruined, very heavy baggage.

(5,811 posts)In March 2009, Jones was appointed by President Barack Obama to the newly created position of Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where he worked with various "agencies and departments to advance the administration's climate and energy initiatives, with a special focus on improving vulnerable communities."[7][8] In July 2009 he became embroiled in a controversy[9] over his past political activities, including a public comment disparaging congressional Republicans, his name appearing on a petition for 911Truth.org, and one-time involvement with a socialist collective during the 1990s.[10][11][12][13] For these issues, Van Jones was heavily criticized by conservatives.[14] Jones resigned from the position in early September 2009.[9] "On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones said in his resignation statement. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."[10]

(50,983 posts)The American people are actually sick from this disaster of a health care system. And the ACA preserves the unnecessary middlemen profit takers.
The word has leaked out on the status quo health care system.

(16,646 posts)I get the impression that HRC is counting on the southern swing and some western support. For all the talk of millennials and white folks, I'm concerned that the real "divide" here is between basically southern/western democrats and east coast/Midwest democrats.

(4,458 posts)Given the raw anger from most all Americans...Repubs/Dems alike (base)..I believe there is something uniquely different going on. Strategies successfully used before aren't going to work this time around.
I personally think it an error to try and "geographically kettle" voters.
Just get out there - give it your all...because this time, It appears as tho the Voters will decide...sans rigging the voting machines..and the PAB would Never do that, right?
It sure Seems - in 2016 -Party affiliation/loyalty doesn't seem to hold the same weight as it used to.

(4,458 posts)the correct decision (motives) nor a long term solution. No one bothered to ask the electorate how these "shiny new gop lite" laws/rules/policies were working out for them. And when we (the base) complained and tried to be a part of it all-we were hung up on, ignored, shouted down and/or otherwise negated-until elections.
Over the years we voted for Dems just to keep "them" out. People tire of that over-time.
Not a good scenario, imo.

I would not call it rebellion, as Hillary is not an established ruler. We are a "democracy" so we do not have rulers, we have representatives.
Our representatives need to learn their place.

(2,510 posts)against favorite son Tom Harkin, so to say that he lost both Iowa and New Hampshire
(and then came back to win the nomination)
is somewhat misleading.
Other Democrats mostly just bypassed Iowa in 1992, with Harkin expected to win it easily, which he did with absolutely no further benefit.
Bill was a close second-place in New Hampshire, the first primary he actively contested,
and successfully spun it as a victory of sorts.
