If Sanders can pull off a two-state sweep of the early primaries, that would completely change the dynamic of the race.
Now, considering the fact that Bernie Sanders does better than Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical matchup with Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, you'd think the establishment Democrats would be thrilled with these developments. You'd think the people who talk so much about "electability" and how important it is, would be overjoyed that Bernie Sanders, a popular and electable candidate, is moving toward the Democratic nomination.
Apparently not.
Instead of celebrating the rise of a new star, establishment Democrats are freaking out about the possibility of Bernie Sanders winning both Iowa and New Hampshire. Case in point: former Tennessee congressman Harold Ford, Jr., who on MSNBC agreed with Joe Scarborough that establishment Dems could recruit John Kerry or Joe Biden to run if Bernie sweeps both early primary states.
Pretty weird, right?

(7,865 posts)It is a sign that we are getting closer to achieving real change within the Democratic party. Whatever happens we are doing better and better. The people in the party have been rejecting candidates like Ford for quite some time now, and no amount of moving them around to different districts has helped matters. The fact that Ford is saying things that are completely destructive to the party all to stop a truly progressive candidate tells me more about the absolute desperation over at the DNC.
Within a decade we should have a party that is more progressive, more populist, and stronger than ever. At the same time the demographic disintegration of the Republican party will help usher in a new era. In many ways, whether he wins or loses, Bernie Sanders will be a transformative candidate for the left in the way that Reagan was for the right.

The only one that could do that would be Elizabeth.

(12,685 posts)A lot of things sure have been exposed this election cycle. The Democrats are fully aware of how the corrupt business has been done in Washington, yet they endorse and promote it.
I think Congressional approval is going to reach a new all time low.
In this environment they still think they can use their trick ponies and emotional manipulation to control the voters. With recent events, I find myself wondering just how low will they go? Is there nothing sacred and is there nothing that will not be used for political gain? What a cesspool.
And the same goes for the Republicans.
People are fed up with both parties.

(19,348 posts)The left is not homogeneous and does not want to hear infomercials for the far side of the left.
The right does, but the center/left does not.
I turned of Schultz and Rhodes after 2008. I will do the same for the Young Turks if they keep up the Bernie infomercials.
With that said, I would gladly take Kerry or Warren over Bernie. They have enough experience and connections to make good things happen.

(6,335 posts)For one thing, I have no clue what "center/left" is supposed to mean? As for "far side of left" what's that?
Is it Medicare for all? Expanding Social Security? A living wage? Taxing the rich? Closing corporate tax loopholes? All those things - and more of what the pundit class likes to call "left" are very broadly popular - so how are they "left" outside the beltway bubble?
As for "far left" - what far left? Who's calling for, say, nationalizing all industry? Not Bernie that I've heard.
Just slinging terms around does not mean you're making any kind of sense.

I like both Kerry and Warren (I really, really liked Warren's autobiography) but i really love Bernie's focus on things that are crucial and which no one else -- or at least not many people -- are talking about.
Go, Bernie!

(3,133 posts)The younger ones did not turn out for Kerry and they won't again. Nor for Hillary. It's now 2-1 for Bernie. Biden can't get them either. You can't possibly be familiar with Bernie Sanders.
On DU I saw a post where someone wrote they were a Liz Warren supporter, but after she said she is not running, she was happy to learn about Bernie. He's been around WAY longer than Liz. As far as infomercials, the MSM has given Hillary documented time, way over that of Sanders. So a streaming only show, you cannot take after all the support for Hillary on MSM?
Hypocrisy abounds here at DU!

This is the "political revolution" Bernie talks about. We aren't going to allow them to steal the nomination from him. Neither Kerry or Biden can do that either. They're worse than HRH!

(50,983 posts)The corporatists now recognize they must have a candidate with at least the appearance of sanity.
If Bernie takes the nomination they will be up a creek.
But Kascish is just as bad as the others he just moderates his speech and isn't such a crazy loudmouth.

(4,458 posts)the Third Way/DNC/Wall Street/Corp Dems and GOP laughed at him, dismissed him, said there is No way We, the People would accept a (spit/spat) "socialist", Ignored him.....yet, here we are---right smack in the middle of making history by participating in a very people powered grass roots "peoples campaign" for a much, much better future.
Their response and reactions to all of this verifies many who have long believed and stated congress, state legs, governors, city/county elected Do Not Care What We Think and What We Want in government(s). It's been this way for more and a couple decades. They mostly ignored us and continue-this very moment-with their Excellent servicing of Big Biz/W/S.

(10,272 posts)The real fight isn't electing Bernie, that's the first fight.
The REAL fight is the off-year Congressional 2 years later,
because if you think Congress is useless now, JUST WAIT. The first 2 years of a Sanders Term would consist of not just the expected Republican opposition that Obama has experienced; it would include every corporate-sellout 'Democrat' who's wallet is about to get lighter.
EVERY SINGLE ONE.
The real fight is bankrolling and then voting for LIBERALS in every district and State in 2018. I think Bernie well knows this, and is ready. The rest of us need to be as well, or we will get nothing but 4 years of Lame Duck served to us by our Corporate Overlords. And while we all choke to death on it, the DLC will hold the video camera and say 'see, we told you the Republicans would hurt you.'

This vote you took is just like the TPP that is now coming up for a vote, it lowers the the issue of sovereignty of the citizens of this country just like what is now happening with the Trans-Canada oil company suing this country for the loss of a profit, exactly the same thing that CAFTA, NAFTA are doing and what the TPP would do and you voted yes to CAFTA.
