2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary's grandchildren comment is a sweet, slightly lame joke. Not a jab
at Sanders. If she's jabbing anyone, it's a gentle jab at herself for being a doting grandmother. What she's saying is about as innocuous as could be.
Thinking this was a jab at Bernie is fucking nuts.

(24,411 posts)Agree that Hillary said nothing wrong. She most certainly wasn't disparaging Bernie's grandchildren.
Again, I've heard Hillary deliver this line in Iowa. It was a sweet line.
She said, "Most people think they have extraordinary grandchildren, but I really do" and she was poking fun at herself and a grandparents who KNOW FOR CERTAIN that their grandchildren are the best.
Hillary was a bit off on Morning Joe earlier and the line came out a bit off.
I'm an ardent Bernie fan and I think most Bernie supporters realize that Hillary wasn't disparaging anyone.

I fully agree that most Sanders supporters I have seen are not backing this one.

(29,503 posts)For children who were and their families, it's not fucking nuts; it's something they hear from time to time. But personally, I'm willing to let it go, giving her the benefit of the doubt. Whatever.
That is disgusting for her to say, and I can't give her the benefit of the doubt, especially given her overall rhetoric lately.

(16,916 posts)you may be right that it's not a jab, but saying that the DUers who disagree with you on this are fucking nuts is fucking rude.

CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)Because, I'm telling you--Hillary was not disparaging Bernie's grandkids. At all.
The line she delivered is a line she had been delivering all over Iowa. I've heard her say it in person at one of her rallies.
It has always been received well by her audiences. It was delivered awkwardly by Clinton this morning.
Saying, "A lot of people think they have extraordinary grandchildren, but I really do," is s a quip; a friendly bit of humor about all doting grandparents who believe their grandkids are the most special.

(23,664 posts)If she thinks people are judging her unfairly, perhaps she ought to give some thought to the things she blurts out without thinking. And she may as well toughen up, because it will get exponentially worse if she becomes the nominee.

(5,066 posts)if not about bernie then it comes off as saying her granddaughter is better than other grandchildren.

It's a fairly common way for a human to jokingly express how much they love another person. This is ridiculous.
