Bernie, really?

Back in the ‘70s I knew Bernie Sanders. At that time he was a perennial candidate for Vermont's governorship, struggling to get 5% of the vote. What was unique about Bernie was his amazing persistence and consistency, working tirelessly to articulate progressive/socialist truths and to build a progressive political presence in the state. Because of his exceptional dedication to those ideals for over four decades, he is now a presidential candidate.

Fast forward to 2015. In spite of that extraordinary history, I reluctantly concluded that I would support Hillary Clinton for president for one simple reason, I believed that Hillary would be more electable. In spite of the fact that I saw her as a “business as usual” establishment politician, who did not inspire me in any way and who certainly lacked Bernie’s incredible integrity, I assumed that once again I would end up voting for the “lesser of two evils”.

<snip>

I am a boomer, my time on this earth is growing shorter and I am gravely concerned about the future of this world. I can support Hillary, knowing that she will obviously be better than any of the Republican field, but also knowing that all she will do is rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Or I can vote for someone who is going to fight tirelessly for real change. I am tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, that’s why I am ready to do all that I can to support Bernie.

I can't grow a third hand. I don't want to be holding my nose with one hand and carrying a barf bag in the other when I vote-which means I need a third hand to push the buttons on the machine.

But Sanders is starting to seem like the stronger candidate. I'm backing the guy with the wild hair and my dad's hippie politics (even tho my hippie dad is supporting Clinton)

there are so many serious problems that are rooted in the fundamental structures of the way we do most everything

it is a hard idea to accept - most think we can let things go mostly unchanged

A new Bumper Sticker for sure. ;-} I'm a boomer too. I'm an Independent not a Democratic party member, and I don't live in an early primary state however if the primary is undecided by the time it rolls around to Oregon, I'll be registering as a Democrat so I can vote for Bernie!

However I will not abstain from voting. If Hillary is the nominee I will hold my nose and vote for her in the general as a defensive move, mostly because the Republicans scare the sh*t out of me. If I get to vote for Bernie it will be with enthusiastic approval, because I don't want to be defensive, I want to vote for something/someone. According to that quiz "istandwith.com" I'm a 97% match with Bernie's stances, close enough for government work! It also says I'm an 87% match with Hillary, though since it's based on her public statements I'm skeptical.

Tweener, oh I don't know what the fuck they call me! It's a real simple call for all of us this time.

Genuine vs Feigned Genuine.

I'm voting for the Genuine Article beacause... Fuck this shit!
