My hubby was polled by Quinnipiac today (Iowa)

For those of you interested in polls, my husband was polled by Quinnipiac tonight.

So, they'll be releasing an Iowa poll in the next few days. They asked the standard questions. They began by asking if hubby would definitely cause, prob caucus or not. He said definitely.

They only poll those who initially say they will likely caucus. This is the same methodology used by The Iowa Poll, the most accurate and reliable polling firm in Iowa.

We should know in a few days how the race is shaping up. The last Q poll had Bernie up by 5. Will be interesting to see if Bernie has gained more or held steady.

The Q poll is solid. I look forward to these results.

The last Iowa Poll will be released next Saturday, 2 days before the Iowa caucus.

You'll all have to forgive my ignorance on the subject, but the caucus process seems a lot more unpredictable than normal primary voting because it's so much more involved and time consuming, so I'm wondering (particularly in unorthodox cycles) how reliably polls translate into results for them. Since you appear to be a real live Iowan, I figured I'd just ask you. Thanks in advance!

You are right that polls are not nearly as reliable in caucus states. Pollsters do not have a working model of who will actually caucus.

Because it's much more involved than just filling out a ballot, enthusiasm plays a much larger role. And they really can't measure that. Plenty of people who tell pollsters they are enthusiastic don't bother caucusing.

For example, Dean had tons of support in 2004...and most of them didn't bother caucusing. Polls also missed Clinton's 3rd place finish in 2008, many polls showing her in first place.

from the caucuses, or some kind of online feed reporting the votes as they come in? I'll be chewing my nails off down here in MO waiting for results!

I will take my phone in with me and I will report on DU the moment I see what the room looks like.

I should be able to give people an idea of what my precinct looks like sometime before 7:30 for sure.
