2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDes Moines Register Endorsement: Hillary Clinton has needed knowledge, experience
If theres one thing Democrats and Republicans agree on this year, its the fact that the next president will face enormous challenges.
Domestically, this president must work with Congress in confronting the issues of immigration, health care, increased threats to national security, the disappearing middle class, the growing deficit, Social Security solvency, gun control, renewable energy, sentencing reform and more.
On the world stage, this president will have to work with foreign leaders in dealing with ISIS and other terrorists, climate change, the containment of nuclear threats posed in North Korea and Iran, the Russian incursions in Ukraine and foreign trade.

(6,282 posts)Clinton has been actively misleading the public on issues surrounding core democratic principles. I am disappointed that the Des Moines Register ignored this public disservice that the Clinton campaign has engaged in in order to gain power.

(5,811 posts)NOT do something so stupid. If Bernie were to win the nomination, he would be in essence the head of a party he has reviled in the very recent past. He would have to sell the Democrat's platform so we could get down ticket seats, gov ships and state houses. Bernie is a fraud, an opportunist who has been able to manipulate his bernster hardliners into believing and defending his alternate universe platform.
Bernie is our trump
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)He's criticized the party because the party deserved criticizing for abandoning its principle and ignoring the people who need it most. When he wins he gets the chance to reform the party starting with a new head of the DNC who will support progressive candidates.

(58,365 posts)campaign warned the DNC when it occurred the first time in October.
Once the wall was reestablished (within an hour) there was no reason for the DNC to punitively cut Bernie's campaign off from his own voter data, the lifeblood of any campaign.
Bernie's campaign has taken corrective action against the staffer (s) that took advantage of the breach.
As I stated Bernie's campaign is suing for discovery as well, his voter data was also at risk, did someone in the Clinton campaign take advantage of it?
Nobody knows, that's what discovery is about.

(5,811 posts)he must have known that before he registered as a Democrat so he could use the DNC machine for his presidential bid. Bernie isn't stupid but he sure thinks you are and if you need any more proof here it is:

(5,811 posts)he's honest enough to run as who he is. Bernie is not. And why would a 74 year old man run for president, a man who if successful would take the oath of office at age 75. This doesn't make any sense. This suggest something else is going on here.
Qutzupalotl

Your suggestion that something else is going on here is just more Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, aka S.O.P.

(4,960 posts)I am a Sanders supporter but I can agree that it's a great endorsement for Clinton to have.
Of course, being a Sanders supporter, I was curious to see how much influence their caucus endorsements have had. Here is a history of Register caucus endorsements, with the caucus winners and ultimate nominees:
1988
Republican: Bob Dole
Caucus winner: Dole. Nominee: George Bush
Democrat: Paul Simon
Caucus winner: Richard Gephardt. Nominee: Michael Dukakis
1992
None endorsed
(Sen. Tom Harkin ran in the Democratic caucus, so candidates largely skipped Iowa. Bill Clinton became the nominee; President George Bush ran largely unopposed on the Republican side.)
1996
Republican: Bob Dole
Caucus winner and nominee: Dole
2000
Republican: George W. Bush
Caucus winner and nominee: Bush
Democrat: Bill Bradley
Caucus winner and nominee: Al Gore
2004
Democrat: John Edwards
Caucus winner and nominee: John Kerry
2008
Republican: John McCain
Caucus winner: Mike Huckabee. Nominee: McCain
Democrat: Hillary Clinton
Caucus winner and nominee: Barack Obama
2012
Republican: Mitt Romney
Caucus winner: Rick Santorum. Nominee: Romney
So, I feel much better about the fact that their endorsement - while a nice win for Hillary - doesn't seem to have much sway with the actual caucus-goers.

The Des Moines Register editorial board announced on Saturday that it would endorse Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the Republican primary.
The editorial board wrote that Clinton has the necessary experience to be president of the United States:
The presidency is not an entry-level position. Whoever is sworn into office next January must demonstrate not only a deep understanding of the issues facing America, but also possess the diplomatic skills that enable presidents to forge alliances to get things done.
By that measure, Democrats have one outstanding candidate deserving of their support: Hillary Clinton. No other candidate can match the depth or breadth of her knowledge and experience.
The Iowa paper wrote that Clinton is not "perfect candidate, as evidenced the way she has handled the furor over her private email server." But the editorial board said that it's "almost inconceivable" that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) would be able to "remake Washington in his own image."
This endorsement will help some
