2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNow even the Human Rights Campaign is part of the "establishment" according to Bernie.
I guess gay rights has come a long way -- when even the largest gay rights group in the country can be criticized for being part of the "establishment."
First Planned Parenthood, next the Human Rights Campaign. I guess if you're not for Bernie, you must, by definition, be part of the "establishment."
Earth to Bernie: you didn't publicly support Federal gay marriage until 2009. As recently as 2006 you publicly stated that it was a states rights issue and that Vermont preferred civil unions. Hillary waited till she had left her position as Secretary of State before she publicly supported Federal gay marriage, so she was a few years behind you. Big deal. You both came to the correct position before the Supreme Court did.

After the Human Rights Campaign announced on Tuesday it would back Clinton, the Sanders campaign criticized the nations largest LGBT group in response to a Washington Blade inquiry for a reaction. Its understandable and consistent with the establishment organizations voting for the establishment candidate, but its an endorsement that cannot possibly be based on the facts and the record, said Sanders campaign spokesperson Michael Briggs. -

A new internal diversity report reveals the Human Rights Campaign has a sexist work environment where only 'gay, white, male' employees advance into leadership positions.

Even After All These Years, HRC Still Doesn't Get It
The ongoing war between the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and the trans community is not only longstanding but quite damaging for both sides. And yes, before you ask, it most certainly is fair to call it a war, albeit a war that's being fought with press releases, money, media access and political influence rather than bombs and bullets.

HRC President Chad Griffin Apologizes To The Transgender Community
In 2007, the HRC publicly endorsed an early version of the Employee Non Discrimination Act that did not provide protections for individuals facing gender-based discrimination. At that time the HRC defended its decision arguing that by removing protections for trans individuals initially, ENDA would be easier to pass and subsequently update to bring transgender people into the fold.

(45,319 posts)they are just way out of their element when they talk about it. 35 people on the HRC board voted on this, they are 'community and corporate leaders' in the language of HRC.
I have had issues with them for endorsing Republicans with bad records over Democrats with good records, because I'm a Democrat. I've had issues with their support for anti choice candidates and anti affirmative action candidates because those issues are important to me and to many other LGBT people and are part and parcel of LGBT politics.
It's not like I sit around opposing them, it's just that I often disagree with their choices and so my support goes to other organizations that certainly need it more cash wise and networking wise. They are just there, doing what they do which is having a gala.

(58,426 posts)For example, Clinton got an endorsement from the Human Rights Campaign this week. That decision was made not by a vote of HRCs membership list but instead by a 32-member executive board that includes Mike Berman, the president of a lobbying firm that works for Pfizer, Comcast, and the health insurance lobby. Northrup Grumman is among its list of major corporate sponsors.
The Sanders campaign blasted the group as establishment and said that Sanders has a much stronger record on LGBT equality than Clinton. Outspoken gay activist Michaelangelo Signorile wrote that HRC had clearly traded its early endorsement for access to the White House for its leaders.

Hillary Takes Millions in Campaign Cash From Enemies
When asked during the Democratic presidential debate what enemies she was most proud to have made, Hillary Clinton named pharmaceutical and health insurance companies at the top of her list. But that hasnt stopped the Democratic front-runner from accepting millions of dollars in campaign cash from both industries in the course of her political career, financial disclosure records show.
Since her first bid for Senate in 2000, Clinton has accepted nearly $1 million from drug and health companies and more than $2.7 million from the insurance field and its related sectors, according to an analysis of public records from the Center for Responsive Politics. While the analysis did not include campaign finance figures for the 2016 cycle, some of the same donors and patterns can be seen in Clintons lone financial disclosure filed in July.
Contributions tied to some of the same firms that gave to her 2008 presidential campaign appear in the latest disclosure, including donations connected to pharmaceutical companies Pfizer Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.; and insurers Aetna Inc., MetLife Inc. and Centene Corp., the latter of which is among Clintons largest donors this year.

The major unions and organizations that democratically held votes of their membership all endorsed Bernie.

And YOUR opinion doesn't speak for all LBGT either.
The main point you avoid is that Sanders and his supporters like to tout themselves as "anti-establishment" when they aren't.
