2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumUnicorns and rainbows. I like 'em. I also like ponies.
I'm not real crazy about being continually told "No we can't do that."
And I would humbly suggest that those who obsessively use those terms to describe hope and aspirations try to stretch their brain cells, or at open a thesaurus and come up with some new metaphors to dismiss optimistic goals. Your lack of creativity is getting very boooorrrring.

Note: This does not include those individuals devoid of conscience with no need to rationalize away any of their actions.

(47,803 posts)...not really. But kittens does not get overused as a metaphor for hope.....Just unrelenting cuteness
I had tried to include some kitten pics, but somehow couldn't do it.
Consider your favorite cute kitten pics included.

(47,803 posts)simplistic metaphors. I mean if one or two posters were to try to swat down ideas they don't like as unicorns and ponies, it would be possible to say "I don't agree, but at least that's kind of funny and a clever way of saying it."
But it has become so monotonously predictable as a cliche that it is more annoying than the sentiments underlying it. Among otehr things it sounds like something that Greg Gutfield moron on Fox wold say (and probably has on numerous occasions).
I know. You'll say "But,but, but the left has their own cliches." True enough, but they tend to be more straightforward at least. Not cutesy right wing crap that a Rush or Glen Peckerhead would use to be "clever."
At the very least, if you want to be dismissive, can you come up with some different mythological figures, or things that people want?

(13,340 posts)Democrats insulting Democrats. I'm learning to HATE this place a lot of people in this Party, apparently. Maybe coming to DU during this season is a bad idea.
Heck, it's even tempting to hate Bernie, and I actually really like the guy, but this whole mess is just depressing the hell outta me.

(47,803 posts)Things will be more somewhat less divided and contentious once the primaries are done. It's DU so it will never be hearts and flowers, but primaries are when the thorns are most apparent.
