Can Hillary Clinton find her spark?

By E.J. Dionne Jr. Opinion writer January 24 at 8:06 PM

It has never been easy to be Hillary Clinton.

Evidence for that proposition is already in the minds of many who are reading this: What do you mean she hasn’t had it easy? Would she even be in this race if she hadn’t been married to Bill Clinton? Would she have been elected to the Senate from New York? Would she have received all those speaking fees?

See what I mean? Many of her critics will never be persuaded, and the past is always with her no matter how hard she works to transcend it

It does seems odd to suggest that nows she's desperate to produce a flash upon some tinder.

and then promptly misses the point.

Just like every other talking head on the left, it's ALWAYS the Republicans fault. Everything is always their fault. Never mind that it's our own party who has done nothing. Nope. They haven't even tried.

We don't mind failure but we hate a quitter. And THAT'S not the GOP's fault.

She is indefatigable on the campaign trail.

What you should be worrying about is the inevitable Bern-out.

It helps to have something to say when you're campaigning.

To Mrs. Clinton. E. J. Dionne is likely persuadable. You might give him a call.

I do not care to be mean or sexist here but she was First Lady in Arkansas and the White House - which is a second fiddle or lesser role. She helped Bill but not as the "front man"

The two New York Senate races were pretty easy races (+12, +36) she got parachuted into. It's hard to say spark won those elections in such a blue state.

Up to this point in time, her husband helped her political career a lot.

And then in 2008, no real spark, her husband tried to help her, the wheels came off - maybe some electronic twitches from the convulsing corpse of her campaign at the end

Here in 2016, no spark, her husband is trying to help her again, will the wheels come off?

We're asking to her to display a spark she never really has in election circumstances.

She is not like Bill in that respect.

Spark comes from passion, conviction, and authenticity.

That is not her strength at all. Her policies are carefully
framed and more cautious and calculated than internally
supported by a vision.

You cannot change her character to be something like
that of Bobby Kennedy. It ain't going to work.

But you can't have both. Selling out automatically extinguishes any "spark."

And I'd like to know just how she's trying to "transcend" her past when she has a sexist, racist hit man like Brock wallowing in the muck on her behalf.
