2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf the GOP will block all of Bernie's bills, they will block all of HRC's bills, too.
No Republican will ever negotiate with HRC on anything. None of them will ever compromise with her.
So it's just as fair to call her proposals undoable as it is to say that about Bernie's proposals.
By the logic of the "unicorn" canard, it would be pointless to bother trying to elect ANY Dem as president. So why accept a meme that says we're all doomed to failure no matter what?

Screw those who won't do the same. Fuck them.

(7,531 posts)My fear is not that they would never negotiate....my fear is the common ground.

(16,110 posts)I have no belief that anyone in congress with an R after his or her name will ever again work with anyone with a D after their name.
It just won't happen, because they are entrenched in this cycle of hate. Pure hate.
Right now, I'm seeing ads attacking Rubio (who is awful) because he worked with someone from the other party, so yeah, about that getting anything done....not gonna happen no matter which of them is elected.

(55,981 posts)is a bad thing. The insinuation is that H. Clinton will be able to get things passed by the Repbubs. If one has a brain they would realize that would mean she is passing things THAT THE REPUBLICONS WANT, which is probably true but NOT A GOOD THING.

(615 posts)... for instance, once the Democratic primary is over, and the TPP becomes "the gold standard" again, that'll zoom right through.
No bills you would want will go through, though, surely. And it's amusing to watch her people argue that the Republicans will work with her constructively towards implementing her ostensible progressive priorities, when they hate her with the fury of a thousand suns.

(975 posts)She worked too hard at State to let that go.
She only hedged on both because they pissed off the base and she needed our support.

(51 posts)She'll have more problems than Bernie, because she said Republicans are her enemies! Not too smart!
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)sees HRC as Satan in a pantsuit. They think they are called by Gawwwddd to fight her and all her works. So why should anyone believe that she would "get things done"?
(at least progressive things).

(29,798 posts)IIRC he gets about 28% of R's in Vermont.
If his middle class economic appeal holds true nationally to override the divisive social issues, it will put an end to the gerrymandered districts - and the Republican Congressional majority - that every naysayer considers to be written in stone.

(50,254 posts)will bring instant Nirvana(btw, please give the "unicorn" slur a rest. Bernie isn't promising unicorns).
The point is, Congress will say no to everything even mildly progressive that she proposes, so why even pretend she'd be better at "getting things done"?
uponit7771
(90,347 posts)... to progress and something that we should go around and not through.
That's what HRC is proffering unilateral actions and not a bunch of bills, this is something Sanders will soon follow because he'll figure out that revolution isn't something that move congress.... they don't care about that.
I'll call them magical asterisks until he answers the question being posed here with a workable strategy and not slogans

(90,714 posts)....Obama could have accomplished if Dems had gotten off their asses in the midterm elections and sent him some more Democrats to work with.
Maybe we can do better this time.
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)And it will be easier to change Congress if we nominate someone who inspires passionate support.
(BTW, it was the party leadership's fault we lost in 2010. It's not possible to get a big turnout when you don't run a fire-up-the-base campaign. The base are the only voters who matter in midterms...centrist independents never go to the polls in those year. It's on the party to show people why they should care).

(16,184 posts)The public isn't so cynical about what they hear from Bernie. He will expose the GOP by speaking the truth about the robbery going on, about the wealth transfer from public funds into corporate coffers.

It will be worse than not getting anything done. It will be getting the wrong things done.
