2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho's going to reparate me
for the brain cells I've lost reading these Palinesque interpretations of Sanders' use of the word revolution? Hillteam, if this 5th grade playground bullshit is the best you got, you might as well pack it in.

(85,998 posts)...how you trivialized the debate over reparations to defend that nebulous 'revolution' that's supposed to take place.
One Bernie poster says it could get violent, though, just like JFK said it would.

You should self delete this thread and try to come up with a better way to say what you mean.
You've made a gross error in judgment.

I'm no alert hound. That's why I suggested the self delete.
I don't really care but it seems like a poor choice in words.

(11,243 posts)not a verb. Reparate as a verb is not in common usage anymore. Except on Urban Dictionary where it has very ugly connotations listed.

(11,243 posts)the "Hilteam" is using this issue as a political football, then why would you do the same? If that is true (I don't know if this is actually true, have not been in GDP enough to gauge) then this is an opportunity for the "Bernteam" to show they are better, right?
A great way to do that would be to actually understand the true racial history of our country and to examine the systemic abuse of the AA community and how it continues to this day, outside the context of partisan politics. Because it is a big and important topic for all progressives that goes beyond any single politician.
A great starter text for whites is Jim Wise's White Like Me. I found that a very helpful starting place for understanding my own privilege.
You're welcome!

(30,481 posts)But if it makes some feel more important, we should let them have it. Self importance, under the right circumstances, can turn to confidence in all areas of ones life. I can get behind that even if it is at the blatant abuse of the English language.

(4,377 posts)One of the definitions of revolution is 'a dramatic and wide-reaching change in conditions, attitudes, or operation'. Which is exactly what his campaign is running on.

(67,782 posts)As for me, I've been looking for a fair shake and "reparations" for blacks in America for decades, not just a week ago.
I've fully supported Affirmative Action (a form of "reparations" since the 1960s, as well as other programs to "reparate" (in the OP's words) blacks in America.

(57,349 posts)Anyone only joining the bandwagon now so they can condemn Bernie is an opportunist, imo, because none of the candidates support reparations. If the issue is important we should care about all of the candidates' opinions, not just one.
If you're not doing that fine, but your associates have been for days.

(99,710 posts)Americans made reparations for what they did to the Japanese.
What was done to our African American brothers and sisters is of the same level of malevolence
No need to trivialize it.
And maybe we should try to make reparations to the Native Americans while we're at it.
On edit- changed mendacity to malevolence.

(99,710 posts)Sir or madame, I am not exploiting anything but if insulting me makes you feel better about yourself then as an empathetic person I will live with the libelous charge as it makes you feel better.
If you believe the trivialization of reparations is appropriate there is nothing I can do to disabuse you of that notion.
Respectfully,

(99,710 posts)Sir or madame you can insult me all you want if it makes you feel better about yourself. But that is not going to stop me from speaking out against the trivialization of reparations. Respectfully, it' ain't gonna happen.
