Chomsky: I'd 'absolutely' vote for Hillary Clinton

Noam Chomsky would “absolutely” choose Hillary Clinton over the Republican nominee if he lived in a swing state, but her primary challenger, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, “doesn’t have much of a chance," the MIT professor and intellectual said in a recent interview.

Chomsky, who lives in the blue state of Massachusetts, said he would vote for Clinton if he lived in a swing state such as Ohio.

“Oh absolutely…my vote would be against the Republican candidate,” Chomsky told Al Jazeera English’s Mehdi Hasan in a two-part interview — part of which will air Friday on “UpFront.”

Chomsky cited “enormous differences” between the two major political parties. “Every Republican candidate is either a climate change denier or a skeptic who says we can’t do it,” Chomsky said. “What they are saying is, ‘Let’s destroy the world.’ Is that worth voting

Nice try though.

From your link:

“I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things,” he said. “I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesn’t have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would — of the current candidates — I think he’d be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.”
Chomsky endorsed Sanders in an interview with teleSUR English in October.

The MIT academic, a self-described libertarian socialist, called Sanders “a New Dealer” rather than a “socialist,” and praised him overall but offered a grim view for his campaign.

Contrast with the final two paragraphs, and they're really stretching the Clinton "support" claim:

“I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things,” he said. “I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesn’t have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would — of the current candidates — I think he’d be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.”

Chomsky endorsed Sanders in an interview with teleSUR English in October.

That's quite a desperate stretch!

for Obama, who he called an opportunist and less militant than Clinton.

How does this change his endorsement of Sanders?

Sanders supporters are well aware of the odds and have
been from the beginning.

*“I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things,” he said. “I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesn’t have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would — of the current candidates — I think he’d be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.”

That's it in a nutshell and why Sanders has called for a revolt against a corrupt system,
people who do not vote for him will reap what they sow.

I read it as Chomsky saying that he would absolutely vote for Hillary Clinton if he had to. Basically, in the GENERAL election - he would choose her over a Republican if she's the nominee. And he's pretty much also saying that if he were living in a blue state - he wouldn't. But if he lived in a swing state he would because even she is better than a Republican.

He is certainly not saying that he would vote for her over Sanders. It's not hard to get what he is saying. Isn't that what the Hillary supporters are asking of all the Sanders supporters if she wins the nominee. To not sit on their hands and stay home - but to vote for her.

That's got to be the most misleading headline I've ever seen! Chomsky has already endorsed Sanders.

do with the merit of his political policies.

He clearly points to money in the election system as the obstacle, how that translates as
flattering to those in the Clinton sphere makes no sense to me as well.

it's a damn shame we have a system of mainly bought elections and that means that Bernie doesn't have much of a chance - but boy oh boy would I like him to be elected. If big money buys the election for Hillary - well then IF he lived in a swing state - he'd vote for her rather than a Republican.

“I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things,” he said. “I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesn’t have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would — of the current candidates — I think he’d be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.”

I can't imagine why any Clinton supporter would want to acknowledge this interview. While Chomsky admits it may be an uphill battle for Sanders - Clinton comes out of this interview pretty poorly.

Prefer Bernie but in a choice between Hillary and the republican, clearly you vote for Hillary.

I'm voting for Sanders no matter what in the primary and for the Democrat no matter what in the general. I seriously doubt any of those Republican clowns will be channeling Ike any time soon.
