Related: About this forumChomsky: I'd 'absolutely' vote for Hillary Clinton
Chomsky, who lives in the blue state of Massachusetts, said he would vote for Clinton if he lived in a swing state such as Ohio.
Oh absolutely my vote would be against the Republican candidate, Chomsky told Al Jazeera Englishs Mehdi Hasan in a two-part interview part of which will air Friday on UpFront.
Chomsky cited enormous differences between the two major political parties. Every Republican candidate is either a climate change denier or a skeptic who says we cant do it, Chomsky said. What they are saying is, Lets destroy the world. Is that worth voting

From your link:
I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things, he said. I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesnt have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would of the current candidates I think hed be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.
Chomsky endorsed Sanders in an interview with teleSUR English in October.

(38,613 posts)Contrast with the final two paragraphs, and they're really stretching the Clinton "support" claim:
I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things, he said. I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesnt have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would of the current candidates I think hed be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.

That's quite a desperate stretch!

How does this change his endorsement of Sanders?
Sanders supporters are well aware of the odds and have
been from the beginning.
*I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things, he said. That's it in a nutshell and why Sanders has called for a revolt against a corrupt system,
people who do not vote for him will reap what they sow.

Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)he sees them. He praised Obama for the Iran deal for example and for
being a statesman on Cuba.
I don't see how anything he said is flattering to Clinton.

(4,961 posts)I read it as Chomsky saying that he would absolutely vote for Hillary Clinton if he had to. Basically, in the GENERAL election - he would choose her over a Republican if she's the nominee. And he's pretty much also saying that if he were living in a blue state - he wouldn't. But if he lived in a swing state he would because even she is better than a Republican.
He is certainly not saying that he would vote for her over Sanders. It's not hard to get what he is saying. Isn't that what the Hillary supporters are asking of all the Sanders supporters if she wins the nominee. To not sit on their hands and stay home - but to vote for her.
That's got to be the most misleading headline I've ever seen! Chomsky has already endorsed Sanders.
Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)do with the merit of his political policies.
He clearly points to money in the election system as the obstacle, how that translates as
flattering to those in the Clinton sphere makes no sense to me as well.

(4,961 posts)it's a damn shame we have a system of mainly bought elections and that means that Bernie doesn't have much of a chance - but boy oh boy would I like him to be elected. If big money buys the election for Hillary - well then IF he lived in a swing state - he'd vote for her rather than a Republican.
I agree with him in a lot of things, not in other things, he said. I frankly think that in our system of mainly bought elections he doesnt have much of a chance, but if he were elected I think he would of the current candidates I think hed be the one who would have, from my point of view, the best policies.
I can't imagine why any Clinton supporter would want to acknowledge this interview. While Chomsky admits it may be an uphill battle for Sanders - Clinton comes out of this interview pretty poorly.

(1,508 posts)Prefer Bernie but in a choice between Hillary and the republican, clearly you vote for Hillary.
I'm voting for Sanders no matter what in the primary and for the Democrat no matter what in the general. I seriously doubt any of those Republican clowns will be channeling Ike any time soon.
