2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBrunch with Bernie: the Kiln in which the Bern was fired (thanks Thom Hartmann!)

I saw this mentioned in another recent thread, but it was something that I had been thinking of recently and wanted to make it a separate thread.
For years (decades?), Thom Hartmann has been having Bernie on his shows to talk about progressive policy and to field questions from his audience. Over the years, Bernie's messaging and policy has been honed and burnished by this exposure to the public and to thoughtful discussion with Thom.
It is this kind of interaction with the public, and this practice of defending policy and ways to talking about policy that makes Bernie so sharp in talking with the media and communicating with crowds. Do you think the hairdos on TV can come up with questions that Bernie hasn't heard a million times before?
Clinton, while sharp, and a master triangulator, definitely doesn't have these thousands of hours of discourse with the public under her belt and it shows. Bernie's ability to speak with honesty, passion, and a deft command of the issues comes through.
Thanks to Bernie for making himself available, and to Thom for giving him a platform . . . and lots of practice.
(Edited to change "Breakfast" to "Brunch"

(57,349 posts)The meme that he only gives speeches and doesn't listen to people is so idiotic it's breath taking.
Anyone who knows anything about Bernie can tell you that's the farthest thing from the truth.
DU rec!

(2,405 posts)seem like the type of guy I would want to drink a beer with. He seems grumpy when he doesn't get his way. Kind of like his supporters.

(57,349 posts)Many many reasons actually but that's just one.
Anyone who has listened to Brunch with Bernie knows better too.
And voting for someone just because you want to "have a beer" with them was the reason why so many supported *

(57,349 posts)I stay out of positive threads about other candidates because I don't mind when others say nice things about their guy/gal.

(6,238 posts)I don't vote for a president because I want to hang out with them. i vote for a Canaanite because I think they'll be the best person to lead this country and, in my opinion, that person is clearly Sanders.

Personally, I prefer a President that is keenly aware of what's happening to American Society and is willing to take on the powerful interests that have created such massive dysfunction on multiple levels.
