2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAl Franken endorses Hillary on his Facebook page
"Hillary's first job after law school was with the Children's Defense Fund, where she knocked on doors in New Bedford, MA, to gather information about children who weren't enrolled in school. The stories she and others collected--about kids who couldn't afford bus fare, or who had disabilities, or whose parents didn't speak English--helped lead to the passage of a landmark law to make sure that every child in America could get an education. That was over 40 years ago. And whether it's fighting for the creation of the Children's Health Insurance Program in the 90s, or continuing the fight for paid leave and universal pre-K, she remains steadfast in her advocacy on behalf of children. I support Hillary Clinton because she's been fighting the good fight her entire life."

I respect you senator but #Bernie too has spent his whole life fighting for his beliefs and he didn't make tons of money from wall street like Ms. Clinton has. Please reconsider and join the movement.
Bernie has been fighting the best fight. We are tired of the status quo. And Hillary is practically a republican. I would think you would be tired of it too Al.
Al, I like you, but have to disagree that Hillary is the choice. Bernie Sanders is the stand alone candidate who will not cowtow to the big business and big money machine.
'm a female liberal democratic voter, and I'm telling you right now, Hillary will not be the first female POTUS. You're backing the wrong horse.
Al, you have done a great job as a Senator. But a vote for Hillary is a vote for the status quo. We need to level the playing field and she is deep in the pockets of wall street. She is a great person but Bernie is BETTER
Really like you Al, But you lose me with support for Hillary. GOP lite.Wrong on the war in Iraq, wrong on wall street and regulation of our finacial institutions. Wrong on campaign funding, still being bought by corporations and special interests, not representing the 99%

But then, again, you don't see us talking all kinds of conspiracies when we don't suddenly start getting online solicitations, either.
I wonder if there's a connection?

(115,733 posts)but they express disagreement with his endorsement. Franken is well-liked in this state, and we had hoped and believed he was really the successor to Paul Wellstone that he seemed to be when he was elected. People are not being rude or insulting but merely stating their deep disappointment.

(115,733 posts)I would not be rude because I think he's been a good senator. I do not agree with his endorsement, however. What should I say? I'm not going to tell him he's stupid, or an asshole, anything along those lines. I might say something like, "Senator Franken, I am very disappointed in your endorsement of Hillary Clinton. I have always thought of you as one of the most progressive members of the Senate, and you have always promoted the progressive ideas and policies that Bernie Sanders is basing his campaign on, and frankly I don't understand why you aren't 100% behind him. I am hoping that you will change your mind before the caucuses on March 1, which is when I will be enthusiastically caucusing for Bernie." Most of the comments have that same tone, and I see nothing rude, inappropriate or passive-aggressive about it.

(47,803 posts)So if thety're bnot nasty and insulting they're "passive aggressive ."
I guess the only socially acceptable and psychologically healthy response is "Love ya Al. I love Hillary too."

(15,369 posts)The nastiness expressed in response to this endorsement is reminiscent of the mob led by John Bolton that showed up in FL in 2000 to stop the vote-counting. It is truly frightening. And shameful.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,733 posts)are responding to a political action on his part, which they have every right to do; those responses, which were almost all quite polite and thoughtful, are not "bullying and attacking." Sen. Franken has a right to his decision, and his constituents have a right to criticize it. If a politician can't tolerate being criticized for his decisions he shouldn't be in politics. Franken can take it, but apparently Clinton's supporters can't - regarding the slightest criticism as an attack.

I did not say ALL comments, btw. But you were in such a hurry to trash me and my response that you apparently failed to realize that. Or you dismissed it entirely simply because my view does not conform to yours. Somewhat cult-like, n'est-ce pas?
