2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTa-Nahesi Coates -- under the bus or not?
This might rip the fabric of the space-time continuum.
Last week, Ta-Nahesi Coates correctly criticized Bernie's campaign for going all-in with infeasible plans on economic issues, while "dismissing reparations specifically, and for offering up a series of moderate anti-racist solutions." And we all know what happens to people who commit that sort of thought-crime.
But the plot thickens. Recently he criticized Hillary, also correctly, for "retelling a racistthough popularversion of American history," with regards to the post-Civil War.
Upon reading this second article, the first instinct is obviously that the Most Excellent Order of the Bernie Empire should give Coates a knighthood. But he's already under the bus! Can you go from Hillary shill to Most Excellent Hero? How does this work?

Hobson: Yes, bathing is a lonely business.
Arthur: Except for fish.
Hobson: I beg your pardon? Did you say "except for fish"?
Arthur: Yes... fish all bathe together. Although they do tend to eat one another. I often think... fish must get awfully tired of seafood. What are you thoughts, Hobson?
Hobson: Pardon me...

(10,751 posts)...I guess you had a little trouble understanding my response. Here, let me help:
Another poster said you were being divisive with your OP (which is the simple truth, of course). You replied "Not at all". Hence my reply. For your edification, here are the relevant dictionary entries:
disingenuous, adjective
1. lacking in frankness, candor, or sincerity; falsely or hypocritically ingenuous; insincere
Related forms

(2,872 posts)shouldn't we be looking at Secretary Weathervane first and foremost? I'm certain she's got different labeled cans for every different direction that the winds of political change could blow.

(14,587 posts)So...if someone posts something here with which I disagree and then I post my argument, does this make me part of the 'attack machine?' Just wondering.
As to Coates, I didn't particularly like what he said because it made me feel very uncomfortable as a white male. I went through all the arguments in my mind and then realized the guy is right. Sad thing is you're never gonna get that through. But he's right. I don't think I posted anything on that thread because I wasn't sure what to say and all my arguments would have been lame.
Now he's criticizing Clinton. Well, he's probably right there, too, even though THAT makes me feel uncomfortable as well.

(5,400 posts)He's probably smiling at how predictably easy it is.
I have to assume he has interesting things he could say, but there's the matter of credibility.
So, I passed then, I'll pass now.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511075218
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Same reason for alerting as the last "under the bus" thread.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Jan 27, 2016, 10:30 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Hard to tell which parts of this post are meant as sarcasm, and which are just knowingly wrong. Just leave it -- it's too self-consciously clever to be taken even half seriosly.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: How about the alerter arguing why the assertion is not true?
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Cripes, folks, lighten up. Not worth the alert.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Vote hide which has nothing to do with bus undercarriages, nor the message in the OP, but because "the Most Excellent Order of the Bernie Empire" is way OTT and a broad brushed insult towards many on DU.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I can see why people believe this poster is intentionally being divisive. To make his point in this manner is taking his chances with the jury. I opt to leave it based on the fact that this is GDP and I believe that the point to be made is that Bernie's political revolution is real.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I see nothing in the post content that is disruptful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. Perhaps the alerter could be more specific as in pointing out the offending passage(s).
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(34,183 posts)Although it wasn't done as well.
I understand that he has very little interest in Bernie Sanders (as a white liberal) and less interest in lesser candidates ()HRC and Republicans) because they are all failing black people, but still the piece on Bernie went viral while his Clinton piece is not really getting much attention due to the way he framed the criticisms.
I find it difficult to understand why he doesn't even think it is in HRC's possibility to endorse reparations and yet says nothing about the vast support of African Americans for HRC.
I think such an analysis might even be too radical even for TNC.
