2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid anyone on msnbc mention the emails last nite? They should! Not to bash Hillary but to....
Discuss it. It's out there. And to explain why it's not a big deal.
I know you Hillary supporters see my posts, my Bernie avatar & are thinking this is a pro Bernie rant.
It's Not! Please hear me out....
The one thing the rw does better than us is messaging.
That's how they get away with Dubya didn't lie us into war, no wmds now but there were, Obama doesn't have American values - whatever it is they always have a counter story. And they repeat it, repeat it, repeat it. They give their viewers all the talking points they need to not only change the story to the complete opposite but to counter anyone that dare says Dubya lied us into war.
And pretty soon Limpo, Beck and the rest are all repeating the same talking point.
You know it - we are all political junkies and we run across the faux talking points all over the internet.
I want to see a segment from Rachel discussing Hillary's emails called what you need to know. It shouldn't be bombastic like theirs but it should be informative... something like this....
You may have heard that Hillary's emails are once again in the news. This is what was reported today __________. What you need to know is 1. They weren't marked classified at the time 2. ____________ 3.__________________. She should be countering the rw spin.
I'm just using Rachel as an example since she tends to be the most professorial host on msnbc. But the same goes for Chris Hayes, Matthews, Lawrence.
Silence is deafening. Silence is letting the story become bigger than it needs to be because not countering accusations with knowledge or facts leaves a void that rw talking heads can easily fill in.
You can't wish this story away. You can't ignore it and when it comes up say things like - There were no rules at the time about using a private server. We need to be ready to fight. We need to meet this story head on. And one of the ways we could do that is post Rachel's segment based on facts here on DU; facebook; twitter; email it to our friends - etc, etc! But there is none. So that leaves the Hillary supporters left to defend her themselves. We need a more coherent message than that.
Yes, I support Bernie. Yes I acknowledge Hillary has a good chance of being our nominee. And yes I will vote for her in the general if she is. I have had enough with the damn emails. I think we all have. C'Mon talking heads that are on our side, help us out by taking this story head on. If there is something concerning TELL US! If accusations are being made that shouldn't be TELL US! But don't let a news story be printed all over the place like the one that came out yesterday be met with silence. Especially days before the first votes are cast and everyday people are starting to pay attention.
Even this Bernie supporter wants to be able to defend her against rw attacks.
A moment of solidarity between us .... now I'm going back to fighting for my candidate.

(2,872 posts)I'd find a way to watch msnbc again if they could explain this, though. I've not had a cable subscription in almost 4 years; kinda feel better off without it.

(14,274 posts)Why in the fuck are we trying to give the Republicans ammo for the General? The Republicans have already admitted that the email thing is just an attempt to distract and get something to stick to Hillary. A lot of Bernie supporters seem to be hoping that this is the end for her. "Toast" they say. I guess they haven't been paying attention to how Hillary handles the Republicans. No matter what they say or do, she makes them look like the fools they are. I suspect that Democrats will look like bigger fools if they play along with this Republican sham.

(39,451 posts)They never did.
The pigs already have all the ammo they need. And Limpo, Hannity and the rest telling them she belongs in jail.
If you think we should ignore that - I hope you're right.

Because should Hillary become our nominee, I want her to win.
