As a strong Obama supporter, I would like to know where he stands on the President's record.

Do you think Democrats haven't?
If you see the word 'Obama' any where in that sentence, I suggest getting some help. We worry about you.

(10,091 posts)There are plenty of things I wish he'd done differently, like picking fewer corporate appointees, instructing the SEC and Justice Department to more aggressively pursue charges relating to financial crisis, campaigning for progressive congressional Dems and linking their races to his administration's success, making less use of drones, etc., but yeah, if you ask me if I approve of the job he's doing as president, of course I do. He's not John McCain or Mitt Romney, and he's the smartest guy in almost any room and the most hard-working as well.

(42,862 posts)I wonder what the full quote was.
Clever writers can turn this: "Bill Press makes the case that nobody would believe. It's poorly written and I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone read this book."
Into this: "Bill Press makes the case . . . read this book."

Note to Jury: This is all in good fun! Mine was just a fictitious example for illustrative purposes only. Of course I don't know what the full original quote was. But that's rather the point, isn't it? Clever editing and pull-quotes out of context can change the meaning of things entirely.

(31,849 posts)Regarding President Obama: #1-The jury is still out. No one knows, or will know, the effect of this trade deal for years to come; #2-was a political ploy, even republicans know/knew this; #3-didn't happen; #4-Prosecute who for what?; #5-straight up lie ... heard of Frank-Dodd; #6-Nostrodomus territory.

(7,820 posts)And I won't answer for him, but I will answer for myself.
Yeah, there were areas where I was frustrated with Obama. Particularly early on. I don't know that I really felt let down- I think he was always fairly clear he was a moderate. But there were and are areas where I felt he was too eager to meet the Republicans on their terms. (Not pushing harder for a public option, for example. Being willing to put "entitlement reform" on the table as part of a grand bargain, which yes, never happened but would have been incredibly bad news IMO) Support for the TPP has frustrated me to no end.
There have been times where I can admit my frustration and skepticism were wrong. I thought waiting for congress to act on DADT meant we'd be waiting a long long time to see it repealled. I was proven wrong- he was absolutely right on that.
I do like what I'm seeing now from "no more fucks to give" Obama. He seems to have decided with a congress that's clearly not gonna work with him and not a huge amount of time left, there are things he can and will do with or without them.
There's a ton I admire about Obama. He's not as far left as I am, and I accepted that a long time ago. And guess what? I know if Bernie got elected, there would be areas where I'd disagree with him too, and he'd face most of the same obstacles Obama has. I agree with Bernie on many issues, and I think he'd make a progressive case and fight hard. I don't think he has a magic wand, but I feel we've in too many cases been unwilling to try, and that cedes too much ground to the righties.
I think he's the right person for this moment I think he's our best shot in November and in the next four years. I don't hate Hillary, but I don't like her chances against Trump, and I don't think we can really afford a President who seems to be ok with the status quo. The system is not working for the vast majority of Americans.

(9,822 posts)I had to defend him from both the left and the right, spending precious time that I needed in my own campaign.
I knocked on 6,000 doors in 2012, and was always dismayed by how much energy was required by the guy at the top of my ticket. And when I asked his campaign for a little help in my district?

(12,655 posts)it doesn't slam the president at all, it just emphasizes that the fight for progressive action never ends.
here:
"Bill Press makes the case why, long after taking the oath of office, the next president of the United States must keep rallying the people who elected him or her on behalf of progressive causes. That is the only way real change will happen. Read this book." (Senator Bernie Sanders)
