2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWinter Storm Kayla starts in Iowa in Monday night
Most likely a non--issue east of Des Moines until Tuesday.
I have no real inkling how this impacts Dems. My guess is that it's bad news for Cruz and Carson on the GOP side, as they are depending on the more evangelical-heavy Western Iowa towns for support.

(13,390 posts)Even Democrats if it's bad enough. Also possibilities that venues will be less, or not at all accessible? Moving could be tough.

(6,145 posts)Nobody should have a problem getting to the polls and turnout should be increased considerably.

(36,063 posts)or are you just saying you think turnout is going to be higher than average?

(6,145 posts)The storm was originally forecast to hit Monday during the caucus and expected to harm turnout. That would have been unfortunate.

(7,499 posts)A lot of older people I know tend to stay in when it snows or gets icy for fear of falling. There is a 'friends of the library' bookstore in my city that is manned primarily by people over 65. When the weather gets bad, it's understood the shop will not be open because the volunteers won't venture out.
We'll see what happens.

(34,111 posts)for us in Kansas was that it would start Monday and extend into Tuesday. Monday looks like you are correct but if it moves any faster the Tuesday outlook is bad for Iowa. It looks to cover most of that state. Let's hope it holds on here for a while.
They are used to this and they also feel that their caucus is very important, as it is. My guess is they will get there. If they have to help each other get there they will.

(5,790 posts)They'll be a lot more certain tomorrow. In Omaha, all we know is that snow is coming. It could be as little as 3" or as many as 16". 9-11 seems to be the consensus, but the winds may gust upwards of 50.
They (weather.com) are calling for Monday evening snow in Mason City, Spencer, Sioux City, Creston, Council Bluffs, and Des Moines. The timing will be key, and 30 miles further north or south on the track will be a big impact.

(34,111 posts)I am watching it closely too. Weather like this always makes life more difficult out here. I don't think I am going to see much, we are just South of what they predict but they also said they were thinking it was a little too far North in the predictions.
We shall see. Tomorrow should tell us more.

(5,790 posts)Seniors less likely to go out, but they take their voting very seriously. Also, some Iowans of all ages pride themselves on getting out to this thing in all weather.
