That is not sexism at all. Pretty simple stuff.

Let's follow your logic. If one were to cast vote because they identified with the color of someone's skin, would that be racism?

And it appears we may continue to do so.

It doesn't have to be Hillary I get that, but doesn't it say something to women everywhere that she is the only serious (major party) candidate we have ever had for President that is female.

Sexism is built into this political system.

It's so frustrating to watch, where are the other women? Why aren't they running? Why aren't they taken seriously?

I would submit that sexism needs to be attacked at all levels, the more base the better...

Merely making some kind of choice based only on gender doesn't sound like anything more than a symbolic gesture as opposed to finding leadership that will actually help advance the process of making the culture less sexist...

Her gender isn't a factor no matter how much they scream about it (do they support Palin and Bachmann too)? We don't support Hillary because we don't support a war with Iran, fracking, Wall street corruption, Monsanto and unlabeled GMOs, the TPP, NAFTA, favors for arms manufacturers, for-profit prisons and the new slavery, High credit card and student loan interest rates, and turning a blind eye to climate change. Hillary supports ALL of those things. The planet can't survive for more years of conservative insanity! (And yes, she's solidly conservative on the political compass).

What we DO want is real action on climate change, universal health care, access to higher education for all students with above average GPAs, less student loan debt (I teach graduate level courses, and I worry about my students and their high interest loans). We want less corporate welfare and an end to wars for profit. We want our infrastructure fixed and investment in green renewable energy. We want our public lands, food, air, and water protected. We want to end Citizen's United and enact real campaign finance reform. We want pay equity for women (which Hillary did not support while on Walmart's board). We want an end to for-profit prisons and We want to see the police de-militarized. We want to see Saudi Arabia and other well armed Nations start to deal with their extremists on their own dimes! On these issues and so much more we agree with Bernie Sanders; the only truly progressive candidate running!

...if all else was equal, then I would weigh gender and vote for the woman.

In this contest, though, all else is definitely not equal. The female candidate does not represent my views very closely at all, and I have no problem voting for the candidate that does, who happens to be a male.

candidate at a way higher percentage than the reverse. That is what you are talking about, right?

It is so interesting that whenever a female or black candidate is beating a white male candidate, the supporters of the white male trot out the ole "identity politics" trope as an excuse for why their guy is losing. Don't you hate it when that happens?

And they were right, just like Clinton supporters are right that it is time we had a female president. Since all our presidents before were white men, I tend to agree. It is a point of PRIDE from traditionally disenfranchised and persecuted groups to see one of our own finally win the big prize. One would think that PROGRESSIVES would understand this.

But STATISTICALLY, we, meaning women and blacks, are MORE likely to vote for a white male over one of our own than a white male will vote for a minority over one of HIS own.

So there is some REAL SEXISM for ya!

His race played absolutely no role in my decision.

I do not support Hillary. But it's not her gender I have a problem with. I would have absolutely no problem with a woman president......just not THAT woman. And I am not going to sacrifice my principles and beliefs just so we can say we elected a woman. I care more about fixing the real problems in this world instead of making historical headlines and playing identity politics.

It was a big deal when Obama was elected as the first black president. I don't deny that. But that particular enthusiasm didn't last long. After a few months, no one cared that he was black except maybe some racists on the extreme right. It was business as usual in Washington. Poverty among blacks has actually gone up. Police still beat up and kill blacks in the streets. Just last year you had a white kid go into a church and murder 9 people because they are black. Where is the progress? It's one area Obama has no doubt failed to find progress.

Same thing will happen though with Hillary with women. There will be a month or two of feminism celebrating a huge accomplishment.....and then everything will be as usual. The earning gap will remain. The Republicans will continue to block any pro-choice legislation. The DOJ will continue to ignore real criminals on Wall Street and the corrupt cops across the country. The middle class will continue to be fucked sideways. But at least we have a woman president!
