(13,877 posts)We Shall Overcome? I get tingly every time I hear it...it is so packed with power. Just wondering how it came about.

(12,704 posts)"If My Jesus Wills", composed sometime between 1932 and 1942 and copyrighted in 1954 by an African-American Baptist choir director named Louise Shropshire. The book, We Shall Overcome: Sacred Song On The Devil's Tongue written by, Isaias Gamboa (music producer), reveals evidence of Louise Shropshire's authorship. In addition, the book reveals Shropshire's role as a close friend, civil rights ally and spiritual confidant of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey and Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth.
Lyrics to Louise Shropshire's, "If My Jesus Wills" (copyright 1954):
I'll Overcome, I'll Overcome, I'll Overcome Someday
If My Jesus Wills, I Do Believe, I'll Overcome Someday

(15,435 posts)I didn't watch any returns on MSM last night... couldn't take the and just don't watch MSM anymore anyway, but I feel as so very many of his supporters do, that we are just beginning the REVOLUTION!
I also have to admit I haven't even checked in here until now and have read no threads, so don't know what Bernie or Hillary supporters have commented on today.
BUT, I became a Bernie supporter sooner than many here, I ordered shirts right after he announced and it took a very, very long time to get them. I ordered bumper stickers and other Bernie items since then, but NOW intend to order more apparel for the rest of my family who all support Bernie. I was saving money to because I'm a huge tennis fan and my favorite player has been Novak Djokovic since 2007. As a "Nervous Nellie" I generally peek to see if he's winning during any given match, which means I MISS a lot. After he wins I can then watch the match on replay! Anxiety takes over during any match and I pace, I peek through my fingers, my hands are in constant motion, heart beats faster just a real mess.
I KNOW, what does THAT have to do with Bernie?? Back to WHY I was saving money. I live in Florida and in April there's a Masters tournament that takes place in Miami. It's about 4.5 hrs. from where I live and I FINALLY decided to bite the bullet and attend the tournament. Not cheap in any way and spending this kind of money is a BIG DEAL so I've been saving. Novak is playing some of the greatest tennis ever and the time to see him is now.
BUT, plans have changed... Now I'm going to do what I can to support Bernie and spend my savings to help him win. Buying his items to advertise and what I can to spread around to everyone I know. I do volunteer, but showing my support for him by wearing his shirts and whatever else he has to advertise is what I will now do to help him out. I did plan a budget so that I can donate $25 monthly, something I've never done for any candidate and my belief and dedication to this man is very deep.
SO, for my country and for doing all I can to go against the current Democratic Machine that's in the pocket of the 1% and for Hillary this is my way of FIGHTING against THE Oligarchy this country has become! The GREED and POWER of those who have become so RICH at the expense of "we the people" who they are supposed to serve MUST STOP!
So this is my sacrifice to help him and our country because to me, Hillary is simply the Status Quo and from all I've seen of her throughout so many years, she's willing to say whatever is needed to get elected and if elected she's back in the hands of WALL STREET and THE ESTABLISHMENT she's always represented! I just don't trust or believe what she's saying and I really wonder about her honesty! I must BELIEVE in who I support, I don't feel it with her!

(15,435 posts)I just want to let others know that there are those of us who feel something happening again.
There's a reason Bernie is happening right now, whether he becomes POTUS or not, he has opened the door that many must NOW walk through!

(454 posts)Expanding support to any and every demographic is crucial, though I caution against hyping every single non-White endorsement.
We have a lot of non-State Senators to win over to close the edge Clinton has.

(12,704 posts)among PoC is immovable. Did you read BusterBrown's post about his reaction to Bernie's speech after Iowa? Up until then he just waved off off Bernie as some old white guy but then it hit him that Bernie was actually saying what was important to him.
