Bernie Sanders wants a political revolution. And most Americans think one might be necessary, according to a new poll conducted by Morning Consult and Vox.
Fifty-four percent of respondents to our online poll which reached a sample of 1,884 registered voters nationally from Friday, January 29, through Sunday, January 31, 2016 agreed that a "political revolution might be necessary to redistribute money from the wealthiest Americans to the middle class." Just 30 percent said they disagreed. (Morning Consult Intelligence members can head to their site to view the poll's full toplines and crosstabs.)
Liberals and liberal-leaning demographics were most likely to agree with the statement. But majorities of independents, white voters, evangelicals, and even Tea Party supporters in our sample agreed too showing that redistribution may no longer be a dirty word in American politics.

(29,503 posts)By way of 501(c)(3) tax exemptions, tax credits, the mortgage interest deduction ... that's what government DOES.

(82,383 posts)When they find out they are the ones who have excess wealth, they will think differently. If they wanted that, they' d have voted in the right people to state and congressional offices.
Nobody wants any "revolution." Everyone is too comfortable, even the poor.

(692 posts)A poster with over 60,000 posts on a website for Democrats spewing right-wing talking points at will. If this primary ends up doing nothing else... it should at least awaken people to the depths that these right-wing frauds will sink to defend the power and privilege of the ruling class and the policies of the parasites and privateers.

(34,825 posts)but the depths of the shilling for the ruling class is really clear right now. Bernie isn't even much of a leftist and they are scared shitless of even the vanilla leftist reforms he proposes that would help the whole. The level of hatred, disdain, and abject fear for anything that would affect their personal self-interest, bottom line, and political comfort zone in any way is breathtaking in its clarity. The media shills are also truly stunning to watch. The red-baiting, the derision, the marginalization all to protect business as usual and privatization at all costs. This is a level I haven't seen before. They are right in our face about it. They reveal themselves in full bloom.
Kashkakat v.2.0
(1,752 posts)investment in infrastructure and social programs. Since progressive tax structure has been in effect for 100 yrs a commitment to it is really quite conservative ... if you think about the literal meaning of the word.
Its the dismantling of public service, tax cuts, everthing thats redistributing wealth UPWARDS that's radical and has been destructive to our society- and we aint seen nothing yet - it will get far worse - once things like water resources are turned over to private for profit interests.
these silly polls are just numbers games - meaningless really.
I spose that might be different for you young whippersnappers who have no memory of life pre-Reagan and who think trickle down economics is some kind of norm. It isn't really, if youre an old fart like me.

(6,437 posts)The question is just "political revolution might be necessary to redistribute money from the wealthiest Americans to the middle class." and an agree or disagree with the statement. There is nothing asking if the respondent would support such a revolution to redistribute wealth.
A respondent could easily agree with the statement that, if wealth were to be redistributed, a revolution is needed without agreeing with the opinion that wealth needs to be redistributed.
Misleading, push question.
