Feeling the Bern yet?
They sure were in Iowa. For Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist, to come that close to winning a presidential nominating contest well its like theyre channeling Seattle out there in the heartland.
Prompted by Sanders surprise showing Monday, I decided to look around to see how the Vermont senators campaign may be resonating around here.
Washington state isnt just feeling the Bern. Were on fire with it.
Consider: The Sanders campaign has gotten more donations from Washington state residents than all the other presidential candidates combined. That includes the one other Democrat (Hillary Clinton) plus all 10 Republicans still in the race.

(12,685 posts)I dont think the state or national Democrats realize the depth of dissatisfaction of the far left, Murray said. Its like our own version of the tea party.
Im guessing theyre starting to feel it now.

(8,699 posts)Love Bernie Sanders. My union, WFSE broke from AFSCME to endorse Bernie Sanders several weeks ago as we did not support their endorsement.
I know many of brothers and sisters will be working hard to make sure Bernie wins our caucus on March 26th!

(5 posts)Long time lurker ... first time poster. Feeling all Fuzzy for Bernie!
So, I've voted for our beloved (and soon retiring) liberal Seattle Congressman Jim McDermott in each and every election since he began running. How lucky am I to have had a Rep. who truly represents for near on two full decades now?! On the issues he's been in lockstep with Bernie (and us!) from the start - a dependable liberal, progressive vote from the get go. So imagine my utter disappoint first to hear he's retiring, but then even more so that he's a super delegate committed to ... Hillary! Ouch ( I believe he's also on board for the TPP as well, but that's a whole different thread.)
I called his office recently to express my disbelief, and basically ask ... WHY ?!? I pretty much got the runaround, something about not being 'allowed' to give out that kind of information (huh?), but at least was told my concern would be noted. I asked if (at a bare minimum) he would reconsider should his constituents vote (overwhelmingly, as I suspect) for Bernie in the March caucus, if he might then change his vote. Otherwise (in my opinion) he would be undermining his entire liberal legacy, basically flipping his finger to the very constituents who consistently re-elected him. I mean c'mon Jim ... we LOVE Socialists here in Seattle (and re-elect them to our city council as well!). And not just the 'Democratic' Socialists, but the real deals (Go Sawant!).
So, here's hoping that in the upcoming weeks all you great DU Seattle voters will ring up or e-mail Jim, and let his office know what you're feelin'. (WHO you're feelin'!) My disillusionment these days with all of our supposedly diehard liberal Congress folk (et tu Barbara?!) all on board with Hillary, well ... we've all got to get vocal with our Reps PRONTO and encourage them to get on board the Sanders train! The sooner Bernie starts peeling away these prematurely committed super delegates, the sooner we can start taking our country back. I fear this may well be our last best chance in decades (and my kids think so too)! I mean if even Jim McDermott won't get out front and support the best, most honest candidate of the left since well, FDR ... what's left?!?
As usual, Ms. Tomlin said it best ... "No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up."
