Related: About this forumWaPo: Plans for UCLA visit give rare glimpse into Hillary Clinton’s paid speaking career
As the issue of Hillary's enormous speaking fees from banksters and the health insurance industry I found this to be interesting. I hadn't heard about her demands that are in addition to a huge speaking fee (already discounted for a public university). In my opinion they really show she is out of touch with the everyday lives of 'normal' people.
This is why Bernie is the best candidate to fight for the people. He has a firm grasp on what is important and not important. He is not a diva. He flies coach. He speaks from the back of a pickup truck. He stands out in the cold weather speaking to those who couldn't fit into the venue. He can relate to the average Jane. And Joe.
When officials at the University of California at Los Angeles began negotiating a $300,000 speech appearance by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the school had one request: Could we get a reduced rate for public universities?
The answer from Clintons representatives: $300,000 is the special university rate.
...
The documents show that Clintons representatives at the Harry Walker Agency exerted considerable control over her appearance and managed even the smallest details from requesting lemon wedges and water on stage to a computer, scanner, and a spread of hummus and crudité in the green room backstage.
Top university officials discussed at length the style and color of the executive armchairs Clinton and moderator Lynn Vavreck would sit in as they carried on a question-and-answer session, as well as the kind of pillows to be situated on each chair. Clintons representatives requested that the chairs be outfitted with two long, rectangular pillows and that two cushions be kept backstage in case the chair was too deep and she needed additional back support.
...
During a walk-through of Royce Hall five days before the lecture, the e-mails show, Clintons team rejected the podium planned for her use during her 20- to 30-minute speech, setting off a scramble on campus to find a suitable podium and rent a new university seal to match.

And somewhere in the story it said the UCLA had to purchase a scanner because Clinton demanded there be one there.

(115,733 posts)for at least five students (@ about $13K per year). Four years of education x five vs. a one-hour speech? It sucks that she asked that kind of fee and it sucks that they gave it. How much value do you get from educating five people who won't have to carry a $53K student loan on their backs vs. the value of an hour of platitudes from a politician? What kind of bullshit is this?

I know it sounds petty and I'll probably be taken to task for it, but, policy differences aside, this is the sort of elitist crap that'll turn me against someone on a visceral level. We all have our non-negotiables, and this is one of mine.
